Fox News Contributor Guy Benson Comes Out As Gay

Guy Benson, a prominent conservative media personality who often contributes to Fox News and has his own right wing radio show, has come out as gay. The admission happens in a "footnote" of Benson's new book with Mary Katherine Ham, End of Discussion: How the Left’s Outrage Industry Shuts Down Debate, Manipulates Voters, and Makes America Less Free (and Fun), and reads: "Guy here. So, I'm gay."

“Gay rights is not something that dominates my attentions — or my passions — and that may seem incongruous, that may seem counterintuitive to a lot of people,” Benson tells BuzzFeed, “but the issues that I care about most undergird the reasons why I’m a conservative and have been forever and will be a conservative moving forward.”

Though Benson isn't passionate about the rights of his fellow LGBT community, he is passionate about the rights of the devoutly religious.

“I’m for civil marriage, I’m for nondiscrimination laws — but I think there should be broad carve-outs for religious organizations, in particular, and narrow carve-outs for closely-held businesses that serve the wedding industry."

Though Benson and Ham tackle the movement to legally stop serving gays in business based on Jesus plenty in the book, he does tell BuzzFeed that he's frustrated by gay people's unwillingness to be discriminated against.

“I think a lot of gay people have felt for generations, obviously, that they have not been treated fairly, and I don’t think that coming to a point of social harmony and then pushing further in this almost vengeful, ‘Let’s get ‘em,’ hounding people out of jobs … [I]t’s not productive, it’s not good for the country."

Welcome to the club, Guy!

Benson recognizes that the country has to work for the mainstream first. Good for him! From what I see gay men were never worth the trouble and lesbian women should have broke from us day zero. We need more role-models like Benson - men who put their country before their dicks.

All you bitter queens need to stop obsessing about your sexuality.  The world does not revolve around you and your "so-called" discrimination.  Name one thing you don't have that everyone else in this country is entitled to.  Republicans are about so much more than what you obsess about.  Gay republicans such as myself are not traitors, we thoroughly know about and appreciate everyone who has come before us to fight for our liberties.  It's time for all the stereotypes to end.  Not all gay men are far-left, liberal zealots.  Some of us don't share your opinions about abortion, religion, morals, immigration, military might, corporate America, jobs, wall street, etc.

What this means is that every time I got to the voting booth to vote for things related to equal rights for gays, someone like Guy will be cancelling out my vote. He is practicing a form of treason or sleeping with the enemy,. To me, that is unforgivable.

Well, we also have a black republican candidate for president who has said that blacks were better off under slavery. It is the party of the ridiculous.

Good for Guy Benson for showing the world that not all gay men are angry, entitled, demanding divas who believe the world is out to get them.

Just like those angry, entitled, demanding African American divas who marched for their rights in the 60s right?. We all have a choice to be on the right or wrong side of history. The Republican party has a worse record of supporting equality than the Democratic Party. This man wouldn't have a job if it weren't for the angry, demanding LGBT activists that came before him.

As much as I disagree with Republicans on many issues, they are right about one thing, which is made very clear by these postings:  many (no, not all) homosexuals demand tolerance, but they do not practice it themselves.  Although Benson says the fight for gay rights doesn't dominate his passions, that doesn't mean he doesn't support them.

Of course I believe that gay people should have the right to marry, but I don't assume that someone who doesn't share that belief is necessarily "homophobic" (a vastly overused term these days).

I fully believe a gay person can be a Republican without "betraying the community".  Let's face it-- there are more issues out there than gay rights.  And let's face it -- the democratic party is far from perfect when it comes to gay rights.  Just like the republicans, they will first do what helps get them elected.  Don't forget that Obama previously said he believed marriage was between a man and a woman.

He can believe whatever he wants to but the fact that Fox News is not firing him for being gay has EVERYTHING to do with the fighting and activism of generations of LGBT heroes. He pays them no tribute and allies himself with the religious institutions and political machines that have kept our people disenfranchised.

A commentator on the right wrote a book about the LEFT'S outrage industry? With right-wingers roaring about this thing and that thing that don't fit into their world view being "shoved down our throats"? With the boycott of J.C. Penney for making Ellen Degeneres their spokesperson? With all the insane chest beating about a Muslim study center happening to be located two blocks from the World Trade Center? Please.

I am gay and was a Republican until 2008 when I was 45 years old. My dear partner, now husband, of now 22 years put up with my hypocrisy for so long, god love him. What finally turned me was my decision to stop self hating and come to terms with the facts that the Republican party couldn't care less about me and my support for them was one sided and would never be reciprocated. As a political convert, I have now little patience for any one that is gay and calls himself a Republican. They want nothing to do with you and only placate you so they can say "See, we have gay people." Bit then they couldn't give a shit about you otherwise.

It's really sad that even in the gay community there is so much hate for those that have different opinions. And believe it or not there are more issues in the world than just the gay issue.

Well then Logan, go find an issue that you care about then and stop trolling. We do have a difference in opinion. My opinion is "liberty and justice for ALL." The hypocritical traitorous bastard's opinion is "liberty and justice for rich middle aged white men." Its pretty cut and dry. Oh, and also, we gays can multi-task. You know…feed the hungry, fight extremists during wartime, adopt rescue animals, save the whales and fight for equality… because whether you believe it or not, we are pretty f***ing fabulous.

I have never been so disgusted by anything in my life. You unappreciative traitor. There is no difference between Judas and you, or Benedict Arnold and you. The countless years fighting for equality…the Stonewall riots, the deaths of so many gay men and women who pushed the limitations of the status quo just for the right of nondiscrimination. All of those historic things are wasted on a beady-eyed weasel like you. I hope you never ever fall and hit your head and it adjusts your brain to the human setting and you want some gay friends, because as you know, history has never been kind to traitors…and we can hold grudges for an eternity. F*** Faux News and F*** you!

So he is still in the phase of "If I let them use me to blunt criticism that they are anti-gay, then they will like me, I'll be a Good Gay" and they'll let me stay in their club!"

The fact is, wanting to carve out protections for public businesses for private religious reasons is idiotic, they are public businesses, licensed to serve the public. d

My husband is a Republican . . . and I still married him. Don't lump all Republicans into one category. Don't lump all "label" groups - Republican, Democrat, Baptist, Catholic, Liberal, Conservative, etc. - into one group. That's judging by stereotypes. There are good/bad people in all groups, and to judge a group totally by the bad people within said group is wrong. Do I agree with Guy? No. I think he does a disservice to how God made him by picking sides and choosing religion over equality, but . . . that's his right, just as it's my right to disagree with him. Narrow minds are not defined by a political or religious affiliation, they're defined by the people who choose to have the narrow minds in the first place.

I have no doubt your husband has a million redeeming qualities. I also think any gay individual who identifies as Republican is either uninformed or self loathing. The two don't go together. Unless of course you believe aligning with a group who's policies only want to deny/eradicate your existence are beneficial to society.

Mark, honest question: why shouldn't we be (self-loathing)? I see nothing to admire about our community or its culture. It's pornographic, cynical, crass, shallow, short-sighted, and anti-spiritual. You know which comic book character we want representing our community now? The fucking Joker!!! A character so perverse and twisted it begs censorship and jail time for the writers. Reducing our influence in American society may very well be "beneficial to society". And if Guy Benson wants to send that message then maybe we should let him do it.

You want to call me a self-loathing internalized homophobe? Go right ahead. But don't call me uninformed: we made a heroine out of "look-at-me" Caitlyn Jenner, our mental health as a sub-group sux, our promiscuity is over-the-top, our HIV-rates are rising again, our drug-use is ubiquitous, ditto for alcohol, our guys are craven, our women are disgusted (with our guys), our marriages are largely open-ended jokes, and our activists raise a ruckus at every opportunity and then cower behind the law. They used to call this sort of crappy behavior immoral but "we can't judge". Like hell we can't. The six-inch-heeled-pump fits so how about we be honest for one fucking second and wear the damn thing! How can we ask the mainstream to put aside our stereotypes when we INSIST MOST SHRILLY on fitting them? I can tell you why decent people want to "deny our existence". We're an embarrassment.
