Gay 'Sex Roulette' Parties? This Isn't My Idea Of Fun.

When we go out on the pull / looking for some action, it always seems like a game of Russian Roulette.  Is this one going to be a little crazy, possessive, chemical dependent, looking for money, or an STD farm.  Wait, isn't there supposed to be just one bullet in the gun and not all of these?  We take a lot of risks when there's sex involved and yes, HIV / AIDS is still part of that equation and it should not be taken lightly.

Apparently there are some people that are playing sexual Russian Roulette with HIV.

A Spanish doctor has warned against the dangerous practice of supposed ‘sex roulette’ parties.  At the parties, which are reportedly taking place among a small minority of gay men, guests are encouraged to have unprotected sex with one another, but there’s a catch: one of them has HIV.

Dr Josep Mallolas of Hospital Clinic Barcelona said that the parties are a sign that people have “lost respect” for HIV in an age of better medical treatment and life expectancy for those living with the virus.

“The wealthy organize these sex parties for other rich people. The real kick of these people is apparently the risk that they might be the one having sex with the HIV-infected partner.” he told el Periodico.

He added that some of the parties are known as ‘blue’ parties because anti-viral PrEP medication is made available to guests to reduce their chance on contracting the virus.

Addressing the concerning risk-taking behaviour, psychosexual therapist Kate Morley told HelloU: “Going to sex roulette parties is about the risk, partygoers think the higher the risk, the stronger the thrill.”

She added: “However the high is short term and the long term consequences are dangerous as not only is there the risk of contracting HIV, but other harmful sexually transmitted infections.” - attitude.co.uk

So not only are participants throwing caution to the wind when it comes to HIV, they don't understand the proper usage of PrEP for it is not a one use / cure all kind of drug.

I've always been told, treat a gun like it's loaded, ALWAYS!  And I like to take that practice to the bedroom as well.

What are your thoughts?

Maybe they all should watch the Stag Condom's video from last year.

The above roulette story has been covered on many gay news sites some saying it may be false.  Seth Myers on Late Night even mentioned the story, but did not state the participants were gay.  So we are not sure if this story is true or not.  Does this type of activity really happen or not? Seeing what people are asking for out there and even some of the things I have done, I wouldn't put it past a group to be doing this.

I'm sorry but this isn't news. It's repeating a poorly sourced story that was about straight people from a Spanish newspaper. Gay people were never mentioned. The story itself was discredited. Be honest and admit this was posted to generate clicks. All this post does is play into negative stereotypes about gay people that spread HIV. At least Queerty shot down the story as part of its post. Might I suggest you edit your post?

At first I thought it was a sort of spin the bottle sex party which I thought the idea of was kind of hot. Instead of getting a kiss you get a dick in your ass.

I find it disturbing that so many gay men seem intent on becoming infected.  I see this on the hookup sites all the time.  Bug chaser.  Infector.  I just fail to understand this completely.  Why the hell would anyone take this kind of chance with their life?

Not to be a jerk but this article needed way more. It was basically one long quote and a few judgmental words. I understand wanting to encourage people to practice safe sex but the small portions that were original did nothing but push the stigma behind the disease.

I need quantifiable proof that this is a thing, and not just an isolated incident. This article. Has anyone talked to Dr. Josep Mallolas in Spain? The referenced website, Cadena Ser, provided nothing in detail. I'm willing to bet that this is one guy.

So this poorly sourced quoticle has just set back the effort to remove HIV stigma by at least fifteen years. Why are you promoting this as news. How about we focus on things that are sex positive but also prevention minded. Giving the far right yet another thing to get outraged over is just self defeating

Because it is news. HIV is a virus, I think that's part of its name.  If it were chlamydia or syphilis or any other virus, it still would be news.  But since it was HIV they chose to use as the so called bullet, we should not report on it?  Rose colored glasses for everyone!
