Glenn Beck Says He'll Stand With GLAAD To Defend Gays In Russia

Conservative pundit Glenn Beck has spoken out in support of gays in Russia...and he wonders why anyone's talking about Duck Dynasty...

Watch!

Beck tells CNN's SE Cupp:

"Do you know what happened last week in Russia? One of their biggest stars on television said that homosexuals should be put into the ovens alive. I didn’t think you could make the Holocaust worse but he’s like “Why the gas chamber? That seems a little too humane. Let’s put them alive in the ovens.’”

“I said on the air this week, I will stand with GLAAD. I will stand with anybody who will stand up and say that’s crazy. That’s dangerous. That’s hetero-fascism. That’s what that is. And we’re talking about Duck Dynasty. Really? Really?”

Glenn Beck and GLAAD walking down the streets of Russia hand-in-hand? Is that what we have to look forward to in Sochi next month??

Surprised by his comments?

We do have idiots over here in the U.S who have the same closed minded hate in their hearts towards gays as Russia, his name was Charles Worley, a Minister from North Carolina. He said every gay should be put in concentration camps....and to just not feed them, and slowly they would die and go away. You know how I remember his racists remarks? For one, I'm a Worley who thanks God she's not related to the bigot....and I'm also the mother of a gay child, so yeah....I pay attention to that sort of ignorance that goes on currently here in the good old U.S.A. This just happened in either 2012 or 2013. So when we "ignore" and brush off the Phil Robertson's of the world, they evolve into the bigoted Charles Worleys!!!!! Hate is hate, no matter how you preach it my friends!

I think it's great that Glenn Beck declared that he would stand with GLAAD against "hetero-facism" in Russia.  I think that his audience is generally more "conservative" & his acknowledgement of horrendous homophobia in Russia will help to shed light on an incredibly serious, international issue, to people who aren't generally concerned with LGBT causes.

I think it's important for LGBT issues to be discussed more widely.  As much as it is important for us to have our own media, magazines & publications, we need to reach other communities to share our stories & gain support for our causes.  LGBT issues are important Human Rights issues & we need more advocates.  Especially within groups that are traditionally conservative.  Hopefully, when someone like Glenn Beck sides with GLAAD on any issue, it serves to provoke thought, & for people to explore & educate themselves on issues that they would otherwise ignore.

I do however feel that, although there is a huge difference between the atrocities happening in Russia & the ramblings of an aging hillbilly, that makes duck calls, they are both varying degrees of hate & homophobia & both topics are worthy of examination & discussion.  If Glenn Beck, in a round about way, is just trying to tell gays to focus on real issues & not be so sensitive about the watered down version of hate in the USA, then he should think again.

Phil Robertson's comments & the response to his suspension from A&E, that came largely from the religious right, were hateful & there are most likely people in the USA that might agree that the best thing you can do with gays is burn them alive.  Fortunately, here we don't currently have a government that condones, or encourages these ideas.

LGBT people are still persecuted to varying degrees both abroad & at home & we must continue to stand up to homophobia & discrimination at every level.  Hopefully, Glenn Beck's passive aggressive support for LGBT issues in Russia might actually do some good, but I don't think we should make the mistake that he is a true ally.
