Guy Wilson Reflects On Shooting 'Days Of Our Lives' Gay Wedding

Guy Wilson, portrayer of Days of Our Lives' Will Horton, reflected on the show's groundbreaking same-sex wedding. See what he had to say on filming the episode and what it meant to him and the rest of the Days cast.

From Gay Star News:

"When we filmed that episode and the days leading up to that, with each day it became increasingly powerful for us," Wilson told Gay Star News at the recent GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles where the show was named outstanding daytime drama.

"The actual day of filming it, there was no acting. We didn't have to act," he said. "It was simultaneously one of the most powerful moments I've had as a performer or otherwise and also one of the most fluid moments I've had as an actor."

....

"There was a level of joy (on the set) that was very powerful and it was fun because everyone was there - almost the entire cast was there and present and we were all very, very aware of what this meant - not just within the context of the show and the storyline but on a greater level," Wilson said.

"We were trying to demonstrate for our viewership the fact that it's okay to be fearless, to express who you are and what you believe in and it's okay to love whoever you want to love. I view the Will and Sonny storyline as an example of true love, pure love."

Was the wedding a powerful experience for you as viewers, Instincters?

for me it was a great wedding one i would love to be a part of one day but Mrs. Brady just brought me to tears her story about the two guys and then will and sonny able to be so open loved it.

I watched it n the best wedding I ever watched it made me cry cause I want that for Me one day

The part that got me the most, was Caroline Brady's story about the two salty old guys who used to drink at the pub. It really felt like the former generation accepting the inevitability of gay marriage and even put the movement in both a very human as well as historical perspective. I just lost it!

It was the best wedding I had seen since bo and hopes. Sonny and will have become one of the super couples of the show.

I was moved to tears watching it. I was moved to tears telling others about it. This storyline has never been about sexuality. It has been about two amazing individuals falling in love. I've been a DOL viewer for 30 years. Many supercouples have come and gone. However, regardless of how many times they drifted apart, they were always drawn back together. And when you know the show has put its long-time blessing on the union is when they incorporate the title of the show into the wedding. So I cried even more when Marlena wished them well, "all the days of your lives."

The Wedding Scene between Will and Sonny was very powerful and moving! It even had me in tears as this is what true love REALLY is! I especially enjoyed the scene where Will and Sonny danced the first time as HUSBANDS and then kissed after.
