Hallmark Says It Shouldn't Have Scrubbed "Gay" From Its 'Deck the Halls' Ornament

Earlier this week, we told you about Hallmark's decision to replace a portion of the classic "Deck the Halls" lyrics on one of its 2013 Keepsake Ornaments due to concern over consumer sensitivity. That lyric in question, "Don we now our gay apparel," was replaced on the ornament with, "Don we now our FUN apparel." The Internet kind of blew up at the K.C.-based company, which has released a new statement saying its censorship was the wrong decision.

"We've been surprised at the wide range of reactions expressed about the change of lyrics on this ornament, and we're sorry to have caused so much concern," the statement read. "We never intend to offend or make political statements with our products and in hindsight, we realize we shouldn't have changed the lyrics on the ornament."

According to a Hallmark spokesperson, the company has no plans to discontinue the altered ornament, however.

What do you think of Hallmark's handling of the situation?
