James Franco Talks Instagram Underage Hook-Up Scandal On 'Live! With Kelly And Michael'

By now you've probably heard about 35-year-old actor James Franco's Instagram hook-up scandal with a 17-year-old girl. (Here's the full breakdown in case you missed it.)

Was it real? Was it fake? Were we being punk'd in the latest James Franco art project? (The whole situation is rather similar to the storyline of his upcoming film Palo Alto, in which Franco plays a high school coach who seduces a teenage girl.)

Well now James is speaking out on the incident. He visited Live! With Kelly and Michael this morning and used the opportunity to tackle the story head on. See what he had to say!

Franco said, in part:

"I’m embarrassed, and I guess I’m just a model of how social media is tricky...It’s a way people meet each other today, but what I’ve learned is you don’t know who’s on the other end. I used bad judgment and I learned my lesson.”

What do you think of his explanation, Instincters? (And does at least a small part of you still he's playing the world with a relatively elaborate hoax??)

She obviuosly knew what she was getting into, 17 or not!

whatever! this is  bullshit! he should come clean! and kelly and michael can you tell me what his balls smelled like you were up his ass far enough!

Lol!! Adrian I totally 100% agree with you. You cracked me the fuk up.

Yeah sorry in his texts he ACTIVELY pursues the young lady after finding out she's 17. It's not illegal in New York but it sure is creepy. That being said there is a large population of men Gay and straight who like the "Barely 18" thing

Ummmm so he gets a free pass for bad behavior.  He was busted and yes it was a bad judgment call.  But, if it had been a "regular" person instead of someone we want to like, they would have been branded a pedophile or worse.  Just like a lot of celebrities the can scoot by on their celebrity status.  Of course, he was embarrassed.  You were busted. I have been a fan of James Franco and I know everyone makes mistakes. Just don't pretend like it was something other than what it was and claim that you are a social media newb.  I understand that the age of consent is less than  17 years old in New York.  So legally, I guess, he didn't do anything wrong. But, seriously, don't pretend like it wasn't anything just because we want to like him.  #sideeye

First time can really be a mistake.  He is correct that you have no positive idea whom you are chatting with so he may have been mislead.  I will give him the benefit of doubt for the first time.  Also because I still find him to be very cute, especially when he smiles.
