Leah Remini Files Missing Person's Report On Scientology Chief's Wife
Updated Friday, 3:00 p.m. PST
The Los Angeles Police Department has quickly closed its missing person's investigation opened by actress and ex-Scientologist, Leah Remini.
Remini filed a missing person's report regarding the whereabouts of Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology head David Miscavige, who hasn't been seen publicly in six years.
"The LAPD closed out its investigation last night, and as TMZ first reported, cops say they had a face to face with Shelly. They did not indicate if they probed as to whether Shelly was being held against her will."
In a statement to The Los Angeles Times a rep for the church denounced Tony Ortega (who originally reported on Remini filing the report), Remini and the latest reports regarding Ms. Miscavige:
"This ill-advised, ludicrous self-promotion and the media inquiries it generated caused an inexcusable distraction for the LAPD in an era when the time and resources of its officers are stretched thin each day," a rep told The Times in an email.
"Creating this unnecessary burden for law enforcement was even more irresponsible given the entire episode was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Ms. Remini, cooked up with unemployed, anti-religious zealots, such as Tony Ortega, who blog on the fringe of the Internet," the statement said.
"Sadly, rather than move on with her life and career, Ms. Remini has aligned herself with a handful of untrustworthy, lunatic tabloid sources who obsessively harass the Church to advance their selfish agendas."
What do you think, Instincters? The LAPD may no longer be looking into it, but is the case CLOSED-closed?? We still haven't seen Shelly....
Is Leah Remini about to blow the roof off of Scientology?
The former King of Queens star and The Talk co-host left the controversial church this summer and now the outspoken actress is taking things a step further. A BIG step further.
According to The Underground Bunker's Tony Ortega:
After speaking with the Los Angeles Police Department, we have confirmed that on Wednesday Remini filed a missing-person report for Scientology leader David Miscavige’s wife, Shelly Miscavige, who has not been seen in public in six years.
As we reported when we broke the news July 8 of Remini’s departure from Scientology, one of the main reasons she began to question her involvement in the church was discovering at the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in November 2006 that Miscavige was there without his wife, who had disappeared without explanation. When Leah asked about it, then church spokesman Tommy Davis told her, “You don’t have the fucking rank to ask about Shelly.”
In other stories, we have explained that in late 2005 or early 2006, Shelly was transferred from Scientology’s International Base near Hemet, California to a secret compound near Lake Arrowhead in the mountains above Los Angeles. This compound, the headquarters of the Church of Spiritual Technology, is home to only a dozen or so Scientologists who are completely cut off from the outside world. We’ve been told that Shelly has been there for the past six years. But Miscavige and his
Now, Remini has put enormous pressure on the church to do just that by involving the LAPD.
Yikes. This goes beyond a simple break from the church. Now real questions are being asked about the safety and well-being of the head of Scientology's allegedly missing wife, Shelly.
It looks like Leah's about to make a lot of noise to get answers about her friend and we don't think she'll be backing down.
What do you think about Leah's latest bold move, Instincters?
