Lesbian NYC Mayoral Candidate Christine Quinn Concedes Primary Defeat

New York City mayoral candidate Christine Quinn conceded defeat in the Democratic primary Tuesday night. Quinn, the Speaker of the City Council, would have been the city's first LGBT mayor.

She was defeated by a large margin, gaining 15% of the vote in comparison to primary winner Bill de Blasio's 40%.

At one point, Quinn was the favorite to become the Democratic nominee.

Speaking to her supporters last night, The New York Times quotes her as saying:

“Our work is not over,” she said, cheers echoing across the room.

“Let’s keep working,” she said at the end of her speech, “for a better, greater, more united, more equal New York for everyone. For every little girl, for every union member, for every family, for every L.G.B.T. person out there.” She paused to let more cheers pass. “That is what we can bring, and that’s what we did bring.”

Thoughts on NYC's Democratic primary results, Instincters? Happy? Sad? Surprised?

Apparently, de Blasio got 47% of the LGBT vote compared to Quinn's 34%, so maybe not!
