LGBT Activists Arrested In Russia In Protest Of Olympics
Russian LGBT Network is reporting via Facebook that 4 LGBT activists have been arrested:
Just now in St.Petersburg 4 LGBT-activists, including one pregnant woman, were arrested. Among the activists were Anastasiya Smirnova and Aleksandra Semenova.
The activists were making photos with a banner "Discrimination is incompatible with the Olympic Movement. Principle 6. Olympic Charter" to support the company held today all over the world.
All the arrested will be taken to the 16th police department.
These arrests took place in St. Petersburg, so it's uncertain whether officials in Sochi are being more "lenient." In either case, we're still seeing LGBT activists being arrested for speaking out against Russia's anti-gay laws. It can't be a sign of good things to come.
