LGBT Activists Outraged Over Dallas Pride's Newly Enforced Ban On Underwear, Nudity, "Lewd Behavior"

Dallas Pride took a page from the "new San Francisco" handbook by announcing that underwear, nudity and "lewd behavior" will no longer be tolerated at the event. Though many in the community support the decision to strictly enforce the rules this year, the new dress code hasn't exactly counted local activists as fans.

“The ‘queer’ is effectively being erased from our Pride celebration in favor of the most polished, heteronormative representation of our community as possible,” writes Daniel Cates, a former member of GetEQUAL Texas. “It should be noted that the rioters at the Stonewall Inn fought to break OUT of the damn closet! Our movement was built of sex positivity and our desire to BE WHO WE ARE! I urge you ALL to openly DEFY the Tavern Guild!”

Part of this year's changes include the banning of go-go boys wearing underwear on popular floats, prompting Dallas Pride organizers to ask that performers wear swimsuits in place of their Andrew Christians. A detective for the Dallas Independent School District has said that participants and performers who break the newly-enforced rules will be stopped at the parade entry point and face possible misdemeanor charges.

What do you think of Dallas Pride's new decision to enforce rules banning these activities?

If people are allowed to wear similar clothing at a beach, what difference does the street make?  As far as I'm concerned, public means public no matter where it is.

Being flirty sexy and fun, is not what I would consider "Lewd" get a dictionary and look it up, if being loud and obnoxious is who you are then I am all for you expressing yourself in public. There is a difference between being sexy and being downright nasty...  I don't think older gays think they paved the way for younger people to make fools out of themselves one day out of the year and then complain about being taken seriously the other 364 days. I am sure most of those people who think it's ok to be nude and rude in a gay pride parade would not have the guts to do it any other time... So is that who they really are? Probly not... Let's stop being hypocritical. Be gay and proud of you you really are, but be sensible about it, the gay population is fighting to be taken seriously and be treated equal, so go ahead and be a drag queen, be sexy, flirty, and fun, wear bright rainbow colors and represent, I am proud of you for that, but if you still feel the need to be a naked, slutty, jackass in the street, go ahead, just don't try to represent the other 95% of the LGBT community who actually have respect for themselves.

It's about time something was done to control these events. Pride parades and other such public events with such immature and lewd behavior do nothing to instill a personal pride in being part of the homosexual community. Instead, I avoid these events like the plague because they make me ashamed to be a part of such a pathetic community. Put some fucking clothes on and act like an adult... otherwise, don't ever expect to be treated as an equal.

Great move, Dallas Pride! - There's a time and a place for everything. We can't keep expecting to be accepted and treated equally while acting unacceptably in public.

Kendall1968 obviously your around 45 years of age...get you head out of your ass and realize that there are young people out there sowing their oats...whilest our old asses can sit back appreciate the fact that we paved the way for them to be as gay as they wanna be. Q: What does this behavior have to Gay Pride? A: Choice4...the right to be as loud and proud as one deems necessary. So get off your high horse and quit giving right wing BSers more ammo than they need.

I think the "banning underwear" part is a bit extreme, I mean it's not any different than wearing a swimsuit... However, public nudity and lewd behavior, are understandable, and neither one are symbolic of gay culture, do not provide any reason to proud of the LGBT community...

Texas that should tell you something a bunch tight ass bible thumping GOP ers ..

Do they enforce this during Halloween parade when straights are lewd?

I am not sure why this is such a big deal and why it is making "news".  The Pride Parade is a public event and many people bring young children.  What does nudity, parading in your underwear and public displays of lewd behavior have to do with Gay Pride? I don't think that is what the Stonewall riots were about...

Wear Andrew Christian swimwear instead.

Whose Pride parade is this, anyway? Doesn't surprise me this comes from Texas, one of the home states of the tight-assed GOP.
