Long-Standing NYC Gay Club Splash To Permanently Close

Sad news today for New York City's LGBT community and nightlife: the long running gay landmark/club/bar/lounge Splash is set to close its doors for good on August 10, 2013.

A message posted on the Facebook page of owner Brian Landache shared the sad news:

For 22 years, it has been a privilege providing you with New York City's most exciting, safe and spectacular gay venue.

Splash will permanently close at our location 50 W. 17th Street on August 10, 2013.

Please join us in our final countdown as we dismount the disco ball with 10 magical farewell celebrations beginning August 1.

Thank you for the memories!

No word yet on the impetus behind the shuttering of the legendary Big Apple landmark that's hosted countless surprise appearances from celebrities such as Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears.
