'Moonlight' Is The First LGBT Film To Win Best Picture At The Oscars

Moonlight is an incredible film! The acting, the screenplay, the cinematography, and the score, are all superlative!

We're incredibly thrilled that, at long last, an LGBT themed film has won the award for Best Picture, at the Oscars!

But if you didn't see the last few minutes of the telecast last night, you definitely missed an unprecedented, gagworthy moment!

The Hollywood Reporter has more:

In a stunning gaffe, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, stars of 1967's classic Bonnie and Clyde, announced the wrong best picture winner at the Oscars on Sunday.

Dunaway read the winner as La La Land instead of the real winner of the night, Moonlight.

Beatty told the audience that they had received the wrong envelope, saying that he saw Emma Stone's name on the card along with La La Land, meaning he had been given the card announcing her win for best actress. When he originally opened the envelope he hesitated, seeming to realize something was amiss, before showing the card to Dunaway, who read the "winner" before Beatty could stop her.

"I opened the envelope and it said 'Emma Stone, La La Land.' That's why I took such a long look at Faye, and at you. I wasn't trying to be funny," Beatty assured everyone, after admitting to the mistake.

Although we were stunned by the error, we were elated to see Moonlight receive the recognition it so rightfully deserves.

While accepting the award, Director/Screenwriter Barry Jenkins said:

“Very clearly, even in my dreams this could not be true, but to hell with dreams! I’m done with it because this is true. Oh, my goodness. I have to say it is true, it’s not fake.”

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Moonlight!

Brokeback Mountain did not win Best Pic of 2006. The Oscar, for some ridiculous reason, went to a movie that no one had seen titled Crash.  There's another movie called Crash with James Spader and Holly Hunter who ket their sexual kicks by being in car accidents, but that wasn't the plot of the movie that won the Oscar.

Brokeback Mountain won for best pic in 2006. LGBT theme, to be sure.
