MSNBC's Thomas Roberts Questions GOP Hypocrisy On Same-Sex Marriage

MSNBC host Thomas Roberts is more than a little confused by the hypocrisy amongst the Republican leadership when it comes to same-sex marriage--especially since they can't seem to stop congratulating him on his own same-sex marriage, while simultaneously attempting to legislate against it.

Check out Roberts on Morning Joe:

Politico writes:

Discussing the Republican leadership on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Roberts, who is gay, said that RNC chair Reince Priebus had congratulated him on his engagement and that RNC communications director Sean Spicer later congratulated him on his marriage.

"Reince Priebus, when I got engaged, congratulated me at the White House Correspondents' weekend. Last year, Sean Spicer congratulated me on getting married to my husband. Yet they incorporate into the platform of the RNC their stance against marriage equality," Roberts said.

Roberts called the disparity between the personal remarks and the party platform "odd."

"It's odd, because why congratulate me? I didn't bring it up, I didn't say give me a congratulations, but they offered it," Roberts said. "So it's odd, because then they'll go out and drumbeat that they're against marriage equality. It's weird."

According to Politico, the RNC Communications director Sean Spicer responded to Roberts' comments in an email, saying:

"Believing marriage is between one man and one woman and being polite, courteous and respectful are not mutually exclusive."

Eh. It sounds to us like these "polite" members of the Republican leadership are talking out of both sides of their mouths.

How kind of them to be courteous while attempting to classify our relationships as illegitimate and unequal...

Just one more example of the muddled-thinking of the Republican Party.
