Netflix Chief Explains Why Sense8 Was Cancelled

Two weeks ago, rumors started circulating that the Netflix original series Sense8 might be getting canceled.

Only a few days after that, the rumors were confirmed. At the time, we guessed that part of the reason for cancelation was because of the second season, reportedly, costing 9 million per episode.

It seems this may be closer to the truth as Ed Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, stated while talking at a Producers Guild of America conference.

“[The creators] made an incredible contribution to our culture with those shows.

“They did a beautiful show… the audience was very passionate, but not large enough to support the economics of something that big, even on our platform.”

He added: “Relative to what you spent, are people watching it? That is pretty traditional."

“A big expensive show for a huge audience is great! A big, expensive show for a tiny audience is hard even in our model to make that work very long.”

“It’s one of those things that you know you’re pushing the envelope if every once in a while you fall. And you go back and start over again.”

  1. How depressing. A fantastic

How depressing. A fantastic show like this cancelled and we're left with the likes of Duck Dynasty. No wonder the world is going to hell in a hand basket.

  2. This story is way too complex

This story is way too complex to wrap up in a two hour season finale. It would do no justice to the show, the actors, and how intricate this show really is. This is really disappointing!

  4. I hope they do a final

I hope they do a final episode, They just can't leave it where they ended it. Loved this show. Sorry to see it canceled.
