Obama Taps Daniel Baer As Ambassador
President Obama has tapped former deputy assistant secretary of state Daniel Baer to be ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), according to The Washington Post.
Baer also happens to be openly gay, which is notable because The Washington Post is reporting that the President may name as many as five openly gay ambassadors in the coming weeks.
Those expected to be named include, HBO executive James Costos as the ambassador to Spain, former Office of Personnel Management director John Berry as the ambassador to Australia, former Democratic National Committee finance chairman Rufus Gifford as the ambassador to Denmark, and James "Wally" Brewster to another overseas locale.
Baer is only the fourth LGBT person to serve as an ambassador. The OSCE is based in Vienna, Austria.
