Out Fox News Contributor Says 'Gay People Should Be More Tolerant of Discrimination'

Out gay Fox News contributor Guy Benson recently said that “so-called open-minded” supporters of same-sex marriage need to be more tolerant of anti-gay activists.

Towleroad reports that while speaking at the 2016 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Benson said that gay rights activists “are hounding heretics ruthlessly from their midst to the point that if you’re a Democrat, if you’re a liberal and you might hold traditional views on marriage, you probably don’t want to talk about it very much for fear of the wrath and judgment of your fellow so-called open-minded leftists.”

Benson adds that although he is in favor of same-sex marriage, he disagrees with the “mandatory celebration” of the SCOTUS ruling, and believes that anti-gay businesses shouldn't be expected to provide their services for gay weddings.

Benson went on to say that the "coexist" bumper stickers “that they love on the left” are “a little morality billboard on your fender to demonstrate what a wonderfully good person you are for fellow motorists. [However] what coexistence really looks like in America today is disagreeing with someone on marriage and not trying to sue their business out of existence because they disagree.”

Let's put this into perspective.

Businesses do not have the right to deny service to whoever they want.  There has been a federal law preventing businesses discriminating based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.  Anybody who cries about loss of business freedom needs to explain why "sexual orientation" being added to a list that has existed for 50 years is somehow the sudden rights problem.

We have simply voted in the same protections other groups have had for 50 years.  Yet gays are the awful people for getting the same protections others have had for over half a century?

LGBT claims to be understanding and compassionate - yes we are except when someone does not toe our community line as the vitriolic puke of the posts on this topic prove unequivically. If you look on the walls of many stores or businesses there often signs that say "We Have The Right to Refuse Service to Anyone." If a gay-owned cake store refused services to a straight couple, would there be all this fuss? I think not. They might cuss the store out or walk away miffed - and then simply go someplace else. Why does the gay community (Yes I said Gay Community because I am Gay and do not identify with LGBT, There are a lot of gay men who see as I do, just as many Lesbians do not like being lumped in with LGBT either) bitch so much over every single perceived slight? Makes us all look really bitchy and pitiful. There are plenty of major things to get angry about. Also, bad language, caustic remarks or put-downs are not logical and do not help; they just make things that much worse.

If you run a business and you don't want to have same sex married couples being at your business, then get out of business.  You have a business that is open to the public.  Would it be alright for a person to refuse to do flowers for a black couple or an interracial couple?  or if they refused to rent their place they normaly rent out to a black or interracial couple?   why is it alright for certain types of discrimination.

Why do straight people get more rights than gay people?

This headline is UNTRUE.
I went and listened to this session -- this guy NEVER says that "gay people should be more tolerant of discrimination", even though that sentence is in quotes in the headline. That is not a direct quote. He and the other panelists DID, however, talk about how aggressive and intolerant progressive people can be toward people with varying conservative views on same-sex marriage. He also DID say that more young conservatives like him support same-sex marriage, and that he considers that a positive change on the political right. And he got APPLAUSE for that.

What a jerk he has no idea what he is talking about! I bet he is a Rethuglican otherwise he wouldn't have to say:  "gay rights activists “are hounding heretics ruthlessly from their midst to the point that if you’re a Democrat, if you’re a liberal and you might hold traditional views on marriage, you probably don’t want to talk about it very much for fear of the wrath and judgment of your fellow so-called open-minded leftists.”
Where is his PROOF? Oh right I forgot most Rethuglicans don't like facts or the truth.... Silly me!

Way back in the days of yore following the American Revolution there was a major opinion that the nation should have no standing army as having an army at hand had folks in and out of government more ready to get into fights.

Conservatives and anti-LBGT folks pushed the  LGBT community to form something of an army and now that they feel they have one there is going to be the impulse to over us it. In battle terms this is why you might negotiate a settlement rather than push it to battle. If before marriage was forced to the Supreme Court fans of discrimination had shown a little tolerance and instead of trying to stop marriage asked that their businesses get to bow out but we do not have to fight the long fight they could have had an open audience to tolerating their intolerance.  But they forced the army to be formed so it is a bit late for someone viewed as a sell out to get any traction asking that the army stop.

That said it might be better long term to allow some businesses to get a discrimination pass as long as we get protection that others can and will supply the service and we get some other protections as well.

Personally, the only way I'd be OK with some business getting a "discrimination pass" would be if they clearly posted their discriminatory policy on the front door & on any website.

You just defined "separate but equal". It's the same argument given to the blacks in the "days of not so yore".

Listen here you little cookie-faced fetus in a suit. Tolerance of discrimination is not tolerance. I'll tolerate someone's religion and his or her right to practice said religion but the moment their beliefs are allowed to impinge on my rights is NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.

If you are gay and voting Republican (modern Republican Party), there is something deeply broken and self-hating inside of you.

It is apparent that gays can now say anything snotty they want to other gays who do not toe the LGBT line or say something that is not supportive of gay views. Gays will cuss dissenters out instead of saying something well-composed, intelligent and scholarly.
