This is extraordinary!

The Pope recently welcomed the world's only openly gay leader, and his husband at the Vatican.

Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and his partner Gauthier Destenay were invited by Catholic officials to the Holy See.

Upon their arrival, Archbishop Ganswein, personal secretary to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, greeted the couple.

Bettel and Destenay, along with other European heads of state, were on hand for the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome.

Pope Francis later met with the Bettel and the other political leaders, in the Vatican.

Bettel tweeted:

“It was a great pleasure and honour for me and Gauthier to be welcomed by the leader of the Catholic church. XB."
