Prince Harry, Elton John Reflect On Princess Diana's Legacy

A new television documentary looks back on the life of the Princess of Wales.

For ITV's Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, Prince Harry sat to speak with Sir Elton John to reflect on how the late princess was one of the first public figures to help dispel the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

Said Sir Elton:

“It was considered to be a gay disease. For someone who was within the Royal Family and who was a woman, and who was straight, to have someone care from the other side, was an incredible gift.

Harry chimed in:

“You look back to these days, when actually the reality was doom and gloom. Yet everybody in that photo is smiling.”

“Because of her,” responded Sir Elton.

“Look at her face in every photograph. There’s a positive, wonderful glow. Also, she had that incredible ability — which [Harry] kind of inherited — to make people feel at ease and make them feel that everything’s gonna be all right. I haven’t experienced many people in my life who have that ability, but she could walk into a room of people and make them feel as if everything was great.”

Watch:

Prince Harry's taken steps to carry forward the legacy of his beloved mother.

Last summer, he took a HIV test for a Facebook Live broadcast, to demonstrate how easy it is to get tested. That broadcast would go on to boost sales of self-testing kits

Last year, HRH also paid a visit to the same hospital where Princess Diana visited HIV/AIDS patients in 1989
