RuPaul Addresses Call Me By Your Name In New Interview

Actor / performer / singer-songwriter / fashion icon / just plain icon RuPaul is perennially one of the best things about gay culture, and this year the hit indie flick Call Me By Your Name was one of the best things about gay culture, so when the two worlds collided in a recent interview with IndieWire, people took notice! Being anointed with the approval of Mama Ru is not unlike have Jesus herself give you two thumbs up, and now, in addition to boasting award season attention and countless glowing critical reviews, Call Me By Your Name can print "Mama Ru Approved " on its DVD cover!

RuPaul, it turns out, is a huge fan of the movie, and was even moved to tears. Here's what he has to say:

It’s so beautiful. I loved it so much. That last scene in the movie, it just tears me apart.

I hope he [Chalamet] gets the Oscar. I hope he does. Beautiful, beautifully done.

He specifically praises one of the flick's most moving scenes - Elio's (Chalamet) heart-to-heart with his father:

The movie is all about that scene with the father. I wish that he had gotten nominated for an Oscar. That Michael Stuhlbarg, since ‘A Simple Man’ he’s been in every single movie that’s ever been produced. He is amazing, and that scene with him at the end of the movie is perfection. That’s what it’s all about, that’s what the whole movie is all about. So gorgeous.

Call Me By Your Name has not been without its skeptics in the gay community - many of whom point to the fact that the film omits an actual sex scene in favor of passionate but less explicit encounters between gay lovers Elio (Chalamet) and Oliver (Armie Hammer.) Others feel that hopefully within the next five thousands years we can, for the most part, have gay actors play gay characters. But Name is truly a transformative flick, and its so wonderful to hear RuPaul's glowing praise of the movie and its actors. Do you agree with RuPaul on this one, or are you saying Call Me... Maybe. I loved the film. I thought about it later that night, all day the next day, simply could not get it out of my mind. However, I definitely felt the film lacked more intimate scenes with the two lead characters. We barely saw them kiss, minimal nudity, etc. I mean, I enjoyed the "peach" scene as much as anyone but would have preferred to have witnessed a scene like that between the actors, versus a piece of fruit. I didn't need to see dick, but something a little more than what we were provided would have been deemed appropriate. I do agree with RuPaul, the final scene was amazing. I was glued to the father's every word. Timothee's performance was outstanding. And I'm thrilled to read that a sequel is in our future.

Don't go to YouTube, morons are trying to call a 17 year old's consensual affair pedophilia.  Yet another way for bigots to vilify anything they don't like.

Had the movie been any more graphic, they'd be in the streets with their torches.  Doubt most of the haters have even seen it.  Hypocrites.
