Sia To Perform "Chandelier" With NYC Gay Men's Chorus At Logo TV's Inaugural "Trailblazers Event

If you read Instinct regularly, you already know that we're obsessed with Sia's "Chandelier." And, you'd know we're obsessed with the way the Australian pop-star has decided to perform the song: facing away from the audience while different notable personalities lip-sync it and dance wearing a blonde Sia-esque wig. (Most recently, Lena Dunham did the duty in a performance on Late Night With Seth Meyers.) Next, it sounds like we'll be seeing the New York City Gay Men's Chorus don the blonde wigs as they perform the unstoppable Song of Summer contender with Sia at Logo TV's first ever Trailblazers event.

A press release has more on the debut of Logo's new TV special:

"I'm so happy to be taking part in the inaugural Logo/Trailblazers Awards. Activist and former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe will honor Ugandan gay rights activist and refugee John "Longjones" Abdallah Wambere as an “International Trailblazer” for his work with Spectrum Uganda Initiatives, an organization that advocates for LGBT rights and provides health and education services to the community.  Earlier this year, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed into law the Anti-Homosexuality Act that criminalizes homosexuality, as well as “aiding and abetting homosexuality,” and “promotion of homosexuality,” with the threat of a 14-year jail sentence for a first offense or up to life for multiple convictions. Wambere is now seeking asylum in the United States, while continuing to advocate for LGBT rights. He joins previously announced honorees DOMA challengers Edie Windsor and Roberta KaplanJason Collins (the first out professional male athlete in a major U.S. sport.) and the series Orange is New Black.

"We all have a task more than ever to stand up in solidarity with LGBT persons around the globe who face Imprisonment, death or even forced to flee their homes for simply who they are and who they choose to love, to end hate and institutionalized homophobia around the Globe," said John "Longjones" Abdallah Wambere.

“Even as we celebrate the historic milestones we've made in America, we also must speak out against the dangers and brutal laws faced by LGBT people in countries around the globe," said Stephen Friedman, President, MTV and Logo TV. "John's heroism in the fight for gay rights in Uganda stands as a beacon for the entire global community. It's a privilege to honor his bravery."

Working with community partner The Trevor Project, and introduced by Trevor Hero Daniel Radcliffe, the event will also spotlight the efforts of four “Trailblazing Youth,” who are making a positive impact in their local communities. In addition, Logo is asking people to submit their stories of the friends, family, and community leaders who have made a profound personal difference in their lives.  Five of these local leaders will be featured on the “Trailblazers” site as a “Hometown Trailblazer,” with one individual being selected to attend the event along with their submitter.
