Singapore Destroys Copies Of Book About Gay Penguins
And Tango Makes Three, the world famous book about two male penguins who raise a chick together, has been ordered to be destroyed by Singapore officials. The book, along with two other children's stories, violate the country's values, according to leaders in the country.
"The prevailing norms, which the overwhelming majority of Singaporeans accept, support teaching children about conventional families, but not about alternative, non-traditional families, which is what the books in question are about," said Yaacob Ibrahim, the country's information minister.
A book about adoption and a book about all the different shapes of families will also be destroyed.
A Facebook campaign has popped up in response to Singapore's decision to erase families that aren't heteronormative two-parent families with biological children. The FB campaign from Jaxe Pan & her daughter include a black and white photo which has been shared 7,000 times that reads, "Dear Minister, single families are REAL, so are adopted families, blended families, gay men and lesbian women. It’s okay that you are not like us, but please do not remove our stories, and pretend we do not exist."
