Sochi Mayor: There Are No Gays In Our City
Anatoly Pakhomov, the mayor of Winter Olympics host city Sochi, Russia, has revealed to the world that the town in which he presides over is the only place on Earth that doesn't count gay people as members of the population.
In an interview with the BBC, Pakhomov was asked if Sochi's LGBT have to hide their sexual orientation from the public. “No, we just say that it is your business, it’s your life," the mayor replied. "But it’s not accepted here in the Caucasus where we live. We do not have them in our city.”
When further pressed and asked how there could be internationally-known Sochi gay clubs (thanks, CNN!) without any gay clientele, the mayor fumed. “I am not sure, but I don’t bloody know them.”
But don't hate the mayor with the word homo in his last name! He will welcome the LGBT community to Sochi for the Olympics as long as gays "don't impose their habits on others."
