Sofia Coppola In Talks To Direct Live Action 'The Little Mermaid'

Now this is exciting!

Sofia Coppola may be coming on-board to direct a live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid!!

Deadline reports:

Sofia Coppola is negotiating to direct The Little Mermaid, a live-action version of the classic Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale for Universal Pictures and Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Caroline Thompson of Edward Scissorhands fame is rewriting the script, about the mermaid willing to make a Faustian bargain to live on land after she falls in love. Previous drafts were done by Fifty Shades Of Grey scribe Kelly Marcel and Shame scribe Abi Morgan, and Joe Wright was at one time eyeing this to direct. The intention is to move quickly.

We doubt this is going to be Disney-fied version of the classic tale. Coppola's not exactly known for children's fare and with previous drafts of the script having been written by the screenwriters of Fifty Shades of Grey and Shame, it looks like we may be getting a dark adaptation more in the vein of the original source material.

What do you think of a live-action version of The Little Mermaid, Instincters? The special effects alone have us excited!

i wanted to see the original brought to life, so are you basically chopping up a movie or changing everything about it

its being done already ????

Sorry to burst your bubble, but, the link that you just provided was fan made with scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean, Vampire Diaries, Percy Jackson, and H2O. Sorry.
