Study: Only 20 Percent Of HIV Transmission In China Is From Gay Sex

New data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and the Prevention AIDS Center reveal that only 1 in 5 people with HIV contracted the disease through sex with a person of the same sex.

Gay Star News reports:

China's reported HIV infections were 90% sexual transmissions while nearly 9% of cases were from intravenous drug use.

‘Currently, the sexual transmission of HIV infection is still the biggest threat,’ Zunyou said.

Heterosexual sex accounted for 70% of infections while sex between men accounted for only 20% of infections.

Zunyou said that since their introduction a decade a go, close to 23 million people in China were now receiving antiretroviral therapies.

Zunyou said that China’s allowing methadone maintenance treatment for drug addicts had had a massive effect on HIV transmissions among heroin users, with the number of people contracting AIDS from sharing needles down from 50% in 2003 to less than 10%.

The figures jibe well with worldwide statistics that show of 33.3 million people infected with HIV worldwide, 15.9 million are women and 2.6 million are children.

Isn't this kind of unrealistic about the amount who would admit that this was how they had contracted HIV though?
