Texas Foster Kids Caretaker Fired For Being Gay In Public
Casey Stegall was fired from his job with the Children's Home of Lubbock for being gay in public, basically. During a field trip to a water park with some of the older, teenage foster kids, Stegall ran into his fiance. The pair acted as normal engaged couples do in public, which was too much for the Christian-owned foster home that owns the Texas foster house which employs Stegall.
Children's Home president Lynn Harms explained, “When you are implementing life training and so forth — particularly with children — to put a confused message out there is counterproductive. If you want to try to force our culture to meet your expectations, that’s not going to go well. I don’t feel like the culture here has to meet an individual’s desire for the world to be different.”
Lubbock has not yet followed other Texas cities' lead to protect its LGBT residents from being fired for being minorities.
