These Drag Queens Want You to Watch Netflix's 'Dumplin' in New Video
If you’re a fan of Dolly Parton and haven’t watched Netflix’s original movie Dumplin’ by now your cincher must be on too tight! The story that follows Dumplin’ an overweight teenager who enters a local beauty pageant despite her ex-beauty queen mother’s reservations. Dumplin’, played by Danielle Macdonald, discovers herself as she enters the pageant as a form of a protest. Her mother, played by Jennifer Aniston, soon learns that her daughter’s incredible qualities.
Along the way, Dumplin’ gets some fairy godmother help from a group of Southern drag queens led by none other than RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Ginger Minj. Dumplin’ is taught to channel her inner Dolly Parton, a singer she has idolized since she was a child. It is this motivation that catapults her through the experience of being a plus-sized girl in a pageant full of young women that have always looked down on people like her.
To continue spreading the notion of channeling your inner Dolly, Netflix has released a remixed version of Dolly Parton’s Jolene full of a star-studded line-up with Drag Race royalty.
The video features Ginger Minj, Manila Luzon, Alaska, BenDeLaCreme, Bebe Zahara Benet, and Katya giving us their best cowgirl fantasies, urging us to "find out who we are and to do it on purpose."
Each queen has her moment on screen as they take on the mechanical bull and channel their inner Dollies. Katya swings out of control from a tire swing, Manila gets her jush in the back of a pickup truck with a sexy country boy, Bebe hangs her silky drag garments from a clothesline, Alaska does her business at the outhouse, Ginger goes fly fishing, and DeLa gets up close and personal with her apple pie. You know, all things Dolly would do.
The end of the video features a fierce Southern belle drag runway where each queen serves her best look at a saloon that is so adequately named “Dolly’s”.
