Tokyo Rainbow Pride Brings Joy To Japan's Capital

Tokyo just got a lot more colorful.

Earlier today (May 6), over 7,000 people gathered to take part in Tokyo Rainbow Pride. The event us one of two annual Gay Pride Parades that happen at Japan’s capital. The parade started in the Shibuya neighborhood and the procession marched over to Harajuku.

According to AFP, this year’s theme was “Love and Equality.”

37 groups participate in the event along with Finalists of Mr Gay Japan, singer Ayumi Hamasaki, the European ambassador to Japan, and model/actor/Youtuber Max Emerson.

As GayStarNews reports, Mr Gay Japan 2018 posted on Instagram his thoughts of the event. He shared, “Lots of people came to say hello and took pictures with me. I have never felt so comfortable about my sexuality in Japan and would love more people to feel the same!”

Love the Japanese, but I think it'll be a LONG time before we see same-sex marriage in Japan. The people are just too steeped in tradition and don't easily make changes.
