Tom Ford: All men should be penetrated at some point

We love Tom Ford for his willingness to speak frankly, off the cuff.

In a new interview with GQ magazine, the fashion designer and part-time filmmaker revealed his thoughts about male sexuality.

Ford explained that he believes that all men should be sexually penetrated at least once.

"I think it would help them understand women," he tells GQ.

"It’s such a vulnerable position to be in, and it’s such a passive position to be in. And there’s such an invasion, in a way, that even if it’s consensual, it’s just very personal."

The Nocturnal Animals director made a similar remark in a 2004 GQ profile, in which appeared to get flirtatious with his (heterosexual) interviewer.

Tom Ford: "Every man should be fucked at some point in his life. You shouldn't force yourself to do it. But it's really not that different than having a massage."

GQ writer: "I'm too repressed."

Tom Ford: "That's silly. Everyone should try it. It doesn't feel that much different. It's skin. You should do it with someone you like. Do it with a friend who you think is great. It's very easy. It's normal. You've never kissed a guy?"

In the new interview, Ford elaborates:

"I think there’s a psyche that happens because of (penetration) that makes you understand and appreciate what women go through their whole life, because it’s not just sexual, it’s a complete setup of the way the world works, that one sex has the ability to literally – and is expected to and is wanted to – but also there’s an invasion.

"And I think that that’s something most men do not understand at all."

Do you agree with Tom Ford?

It actually feels far better than penis alone stimulation, if you do it right and before you get too old. I'm 60 now and lets face it, nothing can feel as good as it did at 30 anymore...

Its not about being gay or straight. Being penetrated doesnt mean your gay if you like it. By massaging your prostate increases the pleasure. That doesnt mean you want it on a regular basis. Understanding the other side and what they experience in any way is beneficial. Ask any verse guy though I believe tops know what their doing yet a verse guy who has experienced both ends understand better. Why do you think they claim men give the better BJ cause we know and understand what the person likes. I know what he is saying. He isnt saying for them to do it all the time or turn gay. But to experience it once to have an understanding. Not just with anyone but someone you feel comfortable with to make the experience better. With understanding and taking your time you can learn from it.

Ridiculous! Whether you're gay or straight, if you don't like the idea of getting fucked, you shouldn't be forced to do so. Also, did he really say it's no different than getting a massage? That's like saying sunbathing is no different than being trapped in a burning building.

Nobody said anything about being forced to be penetrated.

Really? It sounds to me like he's saying exactly that. "All men should do it."

I do my best to follow Tom Ford's advise for myself and for any other willing man. I also think that penetration is such a pleasure that straight men do not get to enjoy because of their fears, shame or whatever, but if they would allowed it to happen to them they will experience a pleasure they have been forbidden to themselves for, well, for ever. One penetration and they'll see what they are missing.

Straight men do not want to be penetrated because they are straight. It's simple. They are not bi, bi curious, or a little gay but more straight, they are straight. It's the same reason why I do not do women. I'm gay. It's that simple.

I know plenty of straight men that like to be fingered during sex by their wives/girlfriend's. There's more to being gay than a little backdoor action.

Ed B, it does not make a man gay if he gets penetrated. A man can have a sexual encounter with another man and have zero emotional feelings towards that person. If he didn't enjoy it, I'm sure he will continue living the hetero life that he is already living. That one encounter did not "turn him gay". If he did enjoy it and continues to do it, he still might not ever feel an emotional connection with a man, but more a physical one. The article above also doesn't specifically say that it has to be a male that penetrates the other. There are plenty of toys out there that enable a woman to penetrate her male partner.

I'd like to know Ed's age. He sounds like my uncle who is 60 who thinks anyone who has so much as a fantasy about another man is in denial of his sexuality.

I'm 54, and not quite as rigid as my post sounds. I am of the age where guys who probably were gay deep down and gave all kinds of excuses as to why they were with another guy, one of my favorite being "I only go to gay bars to learn to dance." However as someone who has been "penetrated" and has "penetrated," I do not think I ever felt vulnerable in one position over another and find Mr. Ford's premise rather silly.

Yes, he is exactly right. It can be such a wonderful invasion. Every man should try it.
