The Trevor Project & Tommy DiDario Discuss September Being Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

I posted something last year on my personal Facebook about September being National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.  I foolishly skipped over it and went about my business as Facebook nudged me to repost what I had shared 12 months ago.  Thinking more about it, I wanted to repost it, but of course now, it's not there, Zukerberg isn't prodding me to relive the past anymore.

Luckily, my and Instinct's friend Tommy DiDario posted something that is a thousand times better than my year old post.  Have a look see at his video he did with The Trevor Project.

The Trevor Project is the leading crisis prevention and suicide prevention organization in the world, dedicated to savings the lives of people in the LGBTQ community who are 4x more likely to take their own lives. Watch this really important video and see how you can do your part to help others. - youtube.com

For more info about the organization, head over to The Trevor Project Homepage.  There you will find some of the more sobering facts like these below.

I want to thank Tommy for the video.  When it first started playing, I was like, oh, Tommy is serious.  He's one of those guys who you can tell how he feels or what he is thinking just by looking at him. I could see the emotion on his face.  Thanks for caring, Tommy.

And I think that is the message about this month. Care, listen, learn, talk.  Get to know someone.  Not everyone will wear their emotions on the outside.  You have to look for other social cues to help you find out.

One more thing we need to talk about is my tardiness, our tardiness.  Here it is the 22nd of the month and we are discussing Suicide Prevention month, which is just for 8 more days.  We need to talk about it at the beginning of the month.  I am guilty of this, too.  Let's help those around us that need it.  Prevention and Awareness shouldn't be just for 10 minutes and 27 seconds, or 8 days, or 30 days.  We need to care all year round.
