Two New Gay Characters Check In To MTV's 'Awkward'

MTV's cult hit Awkward is returning for its fourth season and new showrunners Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler are bringing on two new gay characters!

The showrunners tell BuzzFeed:

Then we’ve got two gay characters named Theo [played by Evan Crooks] and Cole [played by Monty Geer]. As gay writers, it’s obviously important to us to have gay characters on a TV show, so we looked at what we hadn’t seen on TV yet, and we liked the idea of these gay guys whose sexuality wasn’t the most important thing in their lives. They are a bit obnoxious, kind of in the tradition of Stifler from American Pie or Beavis and Butthead — they just happen to be gay.

We're always happy to see our presence expanded, especially on one of our favorite shows!

Awkward makes its return on Tuesday, April 15 at 10 p.m.

I would like to explore the idea of these characters, I feel that today's writers make decisions on character development according to their sexuality. A gay Stifler or Beavis and Butthead is what this show needs to get me going until April 15 when the series continues their new season. I love that Jenna doesn't get a break.

Yeah...that IS awkward...

no it is not awkward
