U.S. Senate Confirms Two Openly Gay African-American Judges To Federal Bench

Congratulations are in order! On Tuesday the U.S. Senate confirmed not one, but two, openly gay African-American judges to the federal bench!

Darrin Gayles has been confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and Staci Yandle has been confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

From Lambda Legal:

President Obama has already nominated more African-American judges and openly gay and lesbian judges than any of his predecessors. With this historic confirmation, Darrin Gayles will become the nation's first openly gay African-American man to serve on the federal bench, while Staci Yandle becomes the second openly lesbian African-American woman to be confirmed in the 20 years since President Clinton nominated Deborah Batts to the Southern District of New York.

Well done! It's excellent to see the federal bench reflecting more of our nation's diversity!

It is a big step in U.S.

Are not these individuals AMERICAN? Everyone screams for equality and recognition for the same rights. Be proud of your African heritage , but you are an American. You where are born here making you American or you were made a citizen denouncing your old citizenship, either way you are an AMERICAN and I find it offensive that a Federal Judge of the United states of AMERICA would be consider themselves as anything other than American.... Or shall we no call this the United states of African America, or Latino America

In the words of Family Guy's Brian Griffin, "it's just easier to call you stupid."

It would not be impolite to call you stupid as well, since they're white Africans
