Video: Stunned Lady Gaga Comforts One Direction Backstage After Boy Band Gets Booed At VMAs

I turned to my partner while watching the Video Music Awards last night moments after One Direction accepted the award for the Best Song of Summer. "Rigged, much?" is what I wanted to say, but instead, "Are they getting booed?!" came out.

It was an uncomfortable moment for everyone participating in it, but the 1D boys, in a testament to their thick skins, didn't allow the rotten tomatoes to hamper their celebratory mood.

But it certainly hampered Lady Gaga, champion of the down trodden and the bullied.

Obviously discomforted by the boos circling the Barclays Center, Gaga deflates in her seat before confirming with a friend that it is indeed boos she's hearing lobbed toward the VMA stage. Gaga then immediately follows One Direction backstage to bestow a group hug both physical and spiritual in nature. MTV's secondary VMA cameras caught all the action.

“Don’t you dare let those people boo you. If I did hear what I heard out there, I just want to tell you that you deserve every bit of success that you have,” Mother Monster told the boys. “I want to leave [the VMAs] right now. I don’t want to stay because I don’t want to be in a room where people are booing.”

Kinda sweet, right?
