West Hollywood to Celebrate Nation’s First Bisexual Pride

The city of West Hollywood in Los Angeles, CA is pushing for a more progressive and inclusive future with its first annual Bi Pride. It is the first event of its kind in all of the US and will take place on the eve of Bi Visibility Day on September 22nd.

Bi Visibility Day first began in 1999 at the International Gay and Lesbian Association (ILGA) World Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since then, it has been a day recognized worldwide to remind people that bisexuality is a valid sexual orientation. It is annually designated for September 23rd.

The City of West Hollywood, amBi LA, and HRC LA are working together to organizing the first Bi Pride. The president of amBi, Ian Lawrence-Tourinho, said:

“While a small number of cities have issues proclamations recognizing Bi Visibility Day, this is a historic celebration hosted by any U.S. city.”

The event is set to kick off with a rally in front of the WeHo Park Auditorium. From there it will continue with a Bi Visibility Walk through the heart of West Hollywood, and then end with a party in the park. So far, guests include L.A Department of Cultural Affairs Artist in Residence Kai Hazelwood and Torrey Mercer.

Admission to the event is free with free parking available on a first-come-first-serve basis at the library parking structure.

In the meantime, Twitter has been consistent in reminding us of bisexuality and its relevance with tweets like the ones seen below:
