YouTube Debuts #ProudToPlay LGBT Sports Initiative For Pride Month
The White House isn't the only American entity that couldn't wait to celebrate LGBT Pride Month; Google's YouTube is also already waving the rainbow flag with the Pride Month-timed announcement of #ProudToPlay.
Reads a press release in part:
Sports bring together people from all backgrounds and experiences through a shared passion, and YouTube shares that spirit of connecting diverse communities to make a difference. In celebration of the upcoming World Cup in Brazil and LGBT Pride month, we’re honoring the LGBT athletes, their supporters, as well as the YouTube Creators who stand up for diversity in sports and elsewhere—all of whom help create an equal and inclusive playing field for everyone. Inspired by #ProudToLove last year, we’re calling this effort #ProudToPlay.
The video description for the #ProudToPlay kickoff also reads:
Stereotypes are like records: made to be broken. Scoring a hat trick. Taking home the gold. Anyone can set the pace for the rest of the world. All it takes is determination, sweat, and heart.
It doesn't matter what you look like, where you're from, or who you love. All that matters is that you give it everything you've got for the team.
Let's support a world where every athlete can be proud of who they are.
Proud of where they've been.
Proud of what's to come.
Upload a video sharing what being #ProudToPlay means to you. Over the course of Pride month and the World Cup, we'll feature a collection of videos about the LGBT community and sports on YouTube's Spotlight channel:http://www.youtube.com/proudtoplay
