I’ve been a big fan of Todd Barket’s personal style ever since we worked together at Gap (he was the first guy that I ever saw wearing a lightweight plaid scarf around his neck—in the summer—with just a T-shirt—indoors). I ran Gap’s public relations office in New York for a little more than four years, and Todd played a major role in making the showroom look perfect for the seasonal press events every three months. Todd actually began his career at Gap in 1990 as a salesperson right out of college (he graduated from the California Institute of the Arts—an art school near Los Angeles founded by Walt and Roy Disney in 1961, more commonly known as Cal Arts). In 2009, after 19 years with the company, Todd was laid off. Of course,...

What makes a pair of underwear cost $39? Vladimir Markovich, Bon Bon Bodywear’s Creative Director (see image below), tells me, “Bon Bon Bodywear is designer men’s underwear. We are paying attention to comfort, design and quality of fabric and finishing. All elements used in Bon Bon Bodywear products are custom-made especially for the brand—we believe that fashion (and exclusivity) is in the small details.”

One of the details that the Style Guyde is really excited about is the fact that Bon Bon Bodywear’s products are made from Micro Modal—a sustainable, biodegradable material derived from renewable beech trees through a 100-percent natural chemical-free process.  Micro Modal—which is produced using very little water...

(Horst P. Horst/Corbis)

While I read my advance copy of Coco Chanel: The Legend And The Life by Justine Picardie (published by It Books, an imprint of HarperCollins) in Central Park as my newborn daughter (she just turned six months on September 11) napped in her (Bugaboo) carriage, I couldn’t help but think how much my life has changed since I moved to New York City more than 16 years ago. When I arrived in the Big Apple on that sweltering day back in July 1994, I was unemployed (but ambitious) and moving into a 4th floor walk-up on the Upper East Side.  Today, I am the Fashion Director of Instinct Magazine (I just celebrated my second anniversary last month), moving into a 2-bedroom apartment (that we are currently renovating—it...

I first became acquainted with Andrew Buckler when I helped the brand’s London publicist find a public relations company to represent them in the United States. As a “thank you,” I was given a pair of Andrew Buckler tan corduroys. These weren’t just any old pair of corduroys—they were a sexy 5-pocket style—cut like a jean with a super low rise and snug through the thighs. They fit perfectly. This was long before every mall brand started calling their jeans “premium denim”—and pants like these were very hard to find.

The Andrew Buckler collection was launched in 2001 and has since grown into a full-fledge lifestyle brand offering ready-to-wear, made-to-measure suiting, denim, knits, accessories and underwear (no...

Think it’s too early to be planning your fall wardrobe? Think again! All of those sale racks in every store at your local mall mean they’re making room for new inventory—pretty soon the shorts, swimsuits and tank tops will be replaced by chunky sweaters, wool pants and down-filled coats. Every summer (on what always seems like the hottest day) in Rome, my boyfriend would buy a new fall suit (or two) at the Prada store as we made our way back to New York from our annual pilgrimage to Capri. Why buy a wool suit in July? Because they typically stock only one in his size per style—and if you find it, grab it! My mother actually just reminded me of a quote that I said several years ago to Kimora Lee Simmons on the non-defunct Life & ...

June is busting out all over—especially on the pages of the “True Colors” fashion story in this month’s issue!

Check out these shirtless photos of the boys from the casting—on top, that’s Gavin from Adam and Henry from Red—on bottom, that’s Eian from Major and Andrew from Request. We saw over 40 different models that day to find the five perfect guys for what ended up being our most ambitious fashion editorial yet!

On the way to the casting that day, I actually passed by this Vitamin Water trunk—I had to stop and take a picture of it (see below) since the bright colors (against a white background) were so similar to the layout for our story. Vincent Dilio (the photographer) and I have been talking about doing...

Bob Dylan and Julia Roberts. Robert Plant and Nicole Kidman. Johnny Cash and Elizabeth Taylor. Normally you wouldn’t think of these people in the same context—but Match Prints, the new photography book by Jim Marshall and Timothy White (published by Collins Design, an imprint of Harper Collins), does it for you, and (somehow) it totally works.

Dubbed “the rock photographer” by (none other than) Annie Leibovitz, Jim Marshall has shot over 500 album and CD covers and his photographs of Woodstock and the Monterey Pop Festival (including the iconic image of Jimi Hendrix lighting fire to his guitar) defined a generation. Although Timothy White has shot more than his fair share of rock stars too, you’ve most likely seen his work ...

As I take to my perch in the front row of the men’s shows for Fall/Winter 2010 during New York Fashion Week, I thought it would make sense to talk to you, dear readers, about items which came down the runway a few months back (worn by some of the most recognizable male models working today) that you can actually buy right now (either online or at your local mall).

Last month, Banana Republic held their annual dinner for the fashion press at Indochine (my absolute favorite restaurant in New York City – and no, it’s not just because the walls are covered in the chicer-than-chic banana leaf wallpaper originally used by decorator Don Loper for the Beverly Hills Hotel in 1941) to celebrate their Summer 2010 collection. Above is a...

When a life-size poster (featuring both front and back views) of hunky Ben Pamies clad only in bright white Commonwealth Utilities briefs arrived on my desk in a very large shipping tube, I knew something was up. A few months earlier, a photograph of Richard Christiansen (the brand’s co-founder) in his marble bathtub at the Bowery Hotel (surrounded by bubbles, magazines and Post-Its) had appeared in New York Magazine. By the time I received my invite to their show during New York Fashion Week last September, it was confirmed—Commonwealth Utilities was a brand worth watching.

And watch we did—over 350 fashion followers with our mouths agape—as 20 of the hottest guys from Major Model Management (including Chad White, Kerry Degman,...

When Scott Evans and I had a discussion over the phone about his cover shoot for Instinct’s December/January issue, he told me that he wasn’t really into fashion and just likes to be comfortable.  No worries, I thought, I can work with that.  Then he shows up on the morning of the shoot (right on time—even before his publicist) wearing the coolest waxed nylon jacket from Zara and a perfectly beat-up pair of Frye boots.  Plus he totally fell in love with the Banana Republic cords that I pulled for him to wear (see last pic below).  Not really into fashion, huh?

Scott is as sweet as he is handsome—and he’s also wickedly funny.  He kept us all in stitches during the day-long shoot which found us on location in an apartment in...
