Writing

We are always on the look out for exciting, provocative, and timely pieces (especially from our readers). Obviously, any submission must be of relevance to our audience, and should adhere to the following guidelines:

Features usually run anywhere from 750 - 2500 words, depending on the topic.

Articles can be fun, or have a more serious slant. We do keep away form politics and/or any politically charged diatribes. We also prefer that pieces not be written in the first person.

Do not pitch themes ("I want to do a story on the gay rights movement..."). The ideal article will tackle this topic, but have a particular slant, exploring your topic of choice in a unique way.

Submissions should be funny, edgy, sexy but most of all CLASSY. We are not currently looking for sexually-charged material.

Read the magazine to match our voice—and this means recent issues of the magazine! Don't look at what we did 10 years ago or even 5 years ago. We've grown, we've changed, we've evolved and we expect our articles to match our currnet style. You should have a solid knowledge of the mag before you contact us.

We here at Instinct strive to create an enjoyable, witty, and unique publication for our readers. We hope that you will find a place in our select pool of contributing writers.

Please send a detailed pitch, including background (personal and professional) information on yourself.

Again, thanks for your interest in writing for us.

Photography / Illustration

We are always on the lookout for exciting, provocative, and humorous photographs and illustrations to accompany our unique and witty writing style. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with our magazine to get a sense of what kind of assignments may be asked of you.

Many of our photographers, both professional and amateur, find the projects we assign not only to be fun, but excitingly different from anything they've done before. Of course, the quality of the image(s) are important so while it may be a fun experience, please remember the following guideline:

Please include a copy of your resume and samples of your work.

As this is a gay men's magazine, a good portion of the pictures will be dealing with the male body. There is no full frontal nudity in the magazine and your work should not too too sexual.

Humorous and original images are just as important, so remember that facial expressions, props, setting, and the models themselves are important to the flow of the magazine.

Model release forms are required and are the responsibility of the photographer. Instinct has standard model release forms on file for those who request them. Photo captions are not required.

Payment will be discussed once a photographic or illustrative assignment arises. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to inquire. We try to keep the guidelines as short as possible so you can have some artistic freedom and some fun.

All in all, remember that we want humor and sexiness, so don't hesitate to explore either or both.
