RuPaul's Drag Race

Katya Is Taking a Break From Drag!

Katya Zamolodchikova, better known as Katya, Miss Congeniality from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7, finalist from RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars Season 2 and co-star of the hit Viceland Show The Trixe and Katya Show has gone on Instagram to make a very important announcement that has left fans gasping.

Brian McCook, the artist behind Katya, went live on Instagram to share that after a lot of working, he is taking a break from drag to focus on himself and his mental health.

SOOOOOOOOOOON!!!

A post shared by Katya Zamolodchikova (@katya_zamo) on

On RPDR, we learned that Katya had struggled with substance abuse and mental health in the past so this possibly comes at a time when he needs it the most.

I was witness to Katya’s incredible work ethic when I met the queen at a meet & greet late last year. Katya hosted an amateur drag competition where at one point she jumped on stage and did multiple drops to splits to Read U Wrote U. After all of that, Katya met and took photos with hundreds of fans until the wee hours of the night—interacting with every single one like only she knows how to do! No wonder he drinks all that Coke (the soda, not the drug).

Katya took to social media speaking only in French—as only a unique artist would.

Here is a translation of what her message had to say:

Hi, it's Katya. This is a message transmitted in French, if you're not French this is not going to make any sense to you.

In French, I'm going to talk about David Lynch, and also about my health.

There is no emergency, there is no emergency. But I needed to take a little break. It was time to take a vacation, because my health, the drugs, my brain, that wasn't good.

If you're French, this will make perfectly sense.

I speak French, but I never have the opportunity to practice speaking French because I'm always busy, I'm always working. I work a lot.

But I am not crazy, you understand of course. I'm a language student first, an artist second, a drag queen third. Health is the most important thing for me.

You have to understand me. In the future, I need to take more vacations, I'm a person, I'm a human. You need to hear me.

Right now, this is not a crisis. I'm taking a vacation for me. I need to take a vacation. The sun is there, I'm happy. My health is here, I'm happy.

I'm telling you this with a sense of urgency. I'm not dying. Let me tell you the truth. I'm not dying, I want to live. I'm a drug addict, but I'm sober. Today, and yesterday. And before. But I need to take a vacation, because I want to survive, like Gloria Gaynor.

I'm not arrogant, I'm intelligent.

I'm ok. I'm not dying because I want to live.

But I need to take vacations, like a normal person. The people who are listening will understand, can understand. And that's all I wanted to say, that's all. In French, because it's the language of knowledge. All languages are languages of knowledge, but I speak in French because I need to speak slowly to speak correctly.

I don't have a drug crisis right now, because I'm sober. I'm taking care of myself today. And that is the reason why I'm happy. But I need to choose carefully the projects that will not ... you understand.

The most important is that I keep coming back.

I speak French because it's a language I understand fluently, better than Russian, Spanish, and Japanese. That's all.

In French, I need to say, I'm human. That's all. It's a joke for Americans, for French people, it's not.

I love French, I've always loved French. I learned French because I love French. Today, right now, I tell you "bonjour."

But I need to take a vacation because I'm tired, I'm exhausted, my brain doesn't work anymore, because of the drugs, because of all the gigs, I believe you understand. We'll see, and I wish you a good day. Bye bye.

Wishing Brian a lot of rest during this time off—we can’t wait to see a re-energized, re-born Katya when you’re ready!

I am fit. I am also a vulnerable being. #provocativewoman @thedragseries

RuPaul Won Best Reality Show Host At The Critics' Choice Awards

A post shared by World of Wonder (@wowreport) on

Congratulations to RuPaul!

The annual Critics’ Choice Awards were held last night and RuPaul took home the award for Best Reality Show Host.

RuPaul was up against several well-known hosts such as America’s Got Talent’s Tyra Banks and Chopped’s Ted Allen.

Sadly, the show itself didn’t win the award for Best Reality Competition Series. The Voice won that battle.

But no matter, because this was already a big night and win for RuPaul.

Again, congratulations!

Will 'Drag Race Thailand' Host Follow RuPaul's Legacy?

We just showed you some behind-the-scenes photos of Thailand’s upcoming production of Drag Race Thailand. But since the Kantana Group Public Co. Ltd purchased the rights to produce their own version of RuPaul’s Drag Race, a lot more has been kept a secret to drag community in Thailand. Based on the photos posted by Piyarat Kaljareuk, VP of Kantana Group, the company will attempt to imitate many of the popular elements of the American reality show—in hopes that it is just as successful.

But one of the biggest keys to the show’s success will be in the host they choose. Is it possible that they have finally found someone who could fill RuPaul’s Thai shoes?

Mama has arrived!

The person who will be in charge of mentoring the drag contestants is Art-Arya, an acclaimed Thai stylist who has studied fashion design in Paris and has worked for fashion house LANVIN.

Working in fashion for over 30 years, Art-Arya, she is now the creative director of the Thai brand, THEATRE. She also continues her passion for fashion by teaching fashion and design.

She can serve the looks--but will she have what it takes to coach the hopeful drag race contestants? Will she have a signature laugh, key catch phrases like “Don’t fuck it up” “Hey Kitty Girl” and “She Done Already Had Herses”?

Drag Race Thailand is coming soon to LINE TV.

Behind the Scenes of 'Drag Race Thailand'

We found out last year that Thailand’s Kantana Group Public Co. Ltd purchased the rights to produce its own version of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The third country to ‘start its engines’ after U.K. and Germany, we’ve been waiting to hear more about how Thailand would bring it to runway.

Piyarat Kaljareuk, Vice President of Kantana Group has just shared some behind-the-scenes photos and videos of what looks like a familiar set where some queens will inevitably be some lip-syncing for their lives.

And with POV shots like this—is it possible that there will be an Untucked version as well?

Kantana Group is one of the largest production companies in Thailand, producing many of the country’s most popular shows. Thailand’s version of Drag Race Thailand will be shown on LineTV and will elevate Thailand’s drag community. Now don’t f*ck it up!

Will RuPaul or Michelle Visage be invited to be guest judges?

'Drag Race' Winner, Raja, Marries Husband in Surprise Wedding

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 3 winner, Raja, married his one-year boyfriend Ryan Turner in a surprise wedding in Norwalk, California late last week. The make-up artist, drag queen, and slaying chameleon met his boyfriend online three years ago where they had a digital platonic relationship until Raja was in Toronto for a gig and ran into Ryan--and the rest is history.

Yep I’m married I love you @ryan_paul_turner this image by @marielgraphics !

A post shared by Sutan RAJA (@sutanamrull) on

Raja, whose name is Sutan Amrullspoke with Hornet to share about why their wedding was such a secret:

We did the City Hall thing. It all happened very rapidly. We decided a long time ago that we were gonna do it. We pretty much knew from the get go that we were gonna marry each other. We just decided one day, ‘Let’s just fucking do it.’ So we found out where to go, filled out all the right paperwork, and then decided to do it immediately.

I mean--in the name of RuPaul's Drag Race: Fashion Photo RuView--these grooms' looks are definite Shooooooots!

The municipal nuptials were quick and intimate, with Raja's closest friends and family in attendance.

The city gave us several different options of where we could [get married], and there’s limited days where you can go in. We wanted to do it as soon as possible, and the next available opportunity was in Norwalk. I was like, ‘OK, that’s hood as fuck. Let’s go to Norwalk. It was a good spot, too, because my family lives in Orange County, and I have friends in Long Beach and L.A.

It's so exciting to see that one of my favorite queens--who I remember watching when I would go to my first gay club OZZ in Buena Park--has found love. Raja has always been a rebel, swim upstream, eclectic soul and this beautifully personal marriage is proof, that for Raja and his husband, what matters the most is that they are in love--and that is perfection!

Oh--and the day couldn't have been complete without RPDR Season 3 Heathers Manila Luzon and Delta Work!

This Harry Potter Star Admits That He Loves RuPaul's Drag Race

It looks like Ronald Weasley himself is a devout RuPaul’s Drag Race fan and he wants everyone to know it.

Rupert Grint has revealed that he is obsessed with the tv show. In fact, he told The Guardian, “I watch [Drag Race] religiously."

Grint spoke to the Guardian to talk about some of his favorite stuff (plays, games, art, etc.). But besides his love of Hamilton and funny t-shirts, Grint also shared what he likes to do when relaxing at home.

It seems that Rupert Grint is a devoted fan who came to the series late, but after binge watching he’s now caught up and completely in love.

“I didn’t know what the drag world was all about so it was really educational. It’s an art form I think a lot of people should know about and appreciate, because it’s really impressive.”

Now, it seems that Grint is not only a fan and one who has his favorite queen (Sharon Needles) and is sharing the love with anyone he can (including his father!).

“I like it when they have to make their own outfits, and I love [drag queen] Sharon Needles, she’s my favorite. It’s really good TV, and I’m constantly trying to get people to watch it. I’ve actually managed to get my dad to watch it.”

Now that’s father/son bonding we can get behind.

Thailand Bought The Rights To Produce Its Own RuPaul's Drag Race

Thailand is going to produce its own version of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Piyarat Kaljareuk, the Vice President of Katana Group Public Co.Ltd which is one of the biggest and oldest production companies in Thailand, announced on Instagram that the country will get its own version of the famous reality/competition show RuPaul’s Drag Race.

In the Instagram post, Piyarat Kaljareuk said roughly that “There are 2 stories to tell your daughters to prepare for.” (The first story was an earlier post about a new music group).

Details are still scarce as the announcement was only made 2 days ago, but fans of the show in Thailand are already expressing excitement at this development.

This will make Thailand the third country outside of the U.S. to have its own iteration of the classic show (after the U.K. and Germany) where drag queens come together to strut, lip-sync, and slay.

And we already know Thailand has some drag queens waiting for this kind of spotlight.

The Highlights From RuPaul's DragCon in New York City

I was beyond giddy yesterday to attend RuPaul's DragCon in New York City, which was the first time they have done this event outside of their only other location in Los Angeles.  It was held at the Jacob Javitz Center, which is truly fitting as it is really the only location in Manhattan that can fit all this pandemonium and madness inside.

When I say that everyone and their mom was there, I literally mean it.  I'm fairly confident that at least 80 percent of the girls from RPDR were there, as well as some other big named celebrities including Daniel Franzese, Big Freedia and Carson Kressley!

All the queens had lines that were longer than Naomi Smalls legs.  It's a testament to really showcase how big this show has become over the past decade, as by 1PM in the afternoon the entire place was packed with drag fans of all ages who were there to see their favorite queens and get some shopping done as well.

I've met so many of these girls before, so I was excited to see them again.  However what really did fascinate me more was the diverse exhibitors who showed up and the products they had to sell to the masses. Everyone from artist Justin Russo, Massive Goods, Swish Embassy and Chad Sell, to more adult lines like Boy Butter really showcased all the different types of goodies you can buy for yourself this weekend

Here are some of the pics from the day, including ones with the girls, products, and fans who showed up ready to play and slay.

Violet Chachki: The Most Glamorous Showgirl On The Vegas Strip

With all the RuPaul’s Drag Race buzz we’ve had lately, including Emmy’s and the upcoming All-Stars/Untucked seasons, it’s nice to be able to check in with some of the most memorable queens and what they have been up to post-Drag Race.

One queen who has been busy is Season 7 winner, Violet Chachki, who snatched the crown from Ginger Minj and Pearl. With her glamorous pin up sensibilities and the smallest waist to grace the Drag Race sisterhood, Violet’s Sin City style transports us immediately to the Las Vegas strip.

Taking this for inspiration, Paper Magazine recently featured Violet Chachki as “the most glamorous girl on the strip” for their Las Vegas issue.

In this photo spread, Violet shines brighter than any other showgirl in a shoot photographed by Michael Avedon and styled by Timothy Reukauf and Violet herself. Styled in brands such as Alexis Bittar, The Blond’s, Christian Louboutin, Moschino, and more.

Violet is living her very best self for #VivaLasPaper!

Trixie Mattel and Katya Are Coming to VICELAND This Fall!

The rumors are true... Katya and Trixie Mattel are making their way back to television!  No, not in the form of All Stars 3 (although the latter of the two is highly rumored to be in the cast), I am talking about them getting their first ever show together on VICELAND!

It was just announced that they will be premiering their weekly comedy/talk show “THE TRIXIE & KATYA SHOW” on November 1st at 10PM.   So we only have to wait two more months for the craziness and hilarity that these two bring together to be up and front on our tv screens.  Yay.

Born out of their popular YouTube series “UNHhhh”, which recently landed a coveted spot on Entertainment Weekly’s “Must List” of the Ten Things They Love This Week (EW, 7/28/17).   The show is a hilarious hybrid of late night, daytime, and advice shows.  The girls discuss anything and everything from their distinct points of view. Topics run the gamut from hook-ups and break-ups, fear, God, death and porn, to name a few.

For those in the dark, Katya and Trixie Mattel were two of the only good things to happen in Season 7 of RPDR.  There was even hashtags inspired by both (#Justice4Trixie, Justice4Katya), and they remain two of the most beloved contestants that the show has ever had.  Katya was one of the hopefuls on All Stars 2 last season, where she barely lost to fellow contestant Alaska for the crown.

Can't wait to see what these two have in stores!!
