Tom Daley Says He Once Felt Inferior Because He Was Gay

Tom Daley is talking about fatherhood, losing his own father, and the self-acceptance that being a father has brought to his life.

While in an interview with radio program Desert Island Discs with host Lauren Laverne, in part to promote his upcoming surrogacy documentary, the Olympic swimmer and YouTuber shared that he grew up feeling insecure about his sexuality. To younger Daley, being gay was wrong because it was socially unacceptable.

“To this day, those feelings of feeling less than, and feeling different, have been the real things that have given me the power and strength to be able to succeed," he told the radio host.

But, he now says that fatherhood has changed that dynamic in him.

Daley, and husband Dustin Lance Black, announced earlier this year that they would be having a baby through surrogacy. Then the little boy came into their life in June.

Very excited for you to hear my #DesertIslandDiscs this Sunday at 11.15am with @laurenlaverne on @bbcradio4

While Daley has already grown to be comfortable with his sexuality, the need to raise a little human being has made him forget about all the little troubles. This includes even his passion for sports.

‘If you had asked me last year, it was all about 'I need to win a gold medal,'" he said.

“You know what, there are bigger things than Olympic gold medals. My Olympic gold medal is Robbie.”

During the interview, Daley also shared that he named his son Robbie after his own father who died a year before the London Olympics. Robert Daley was always supportive of Tom and wanted to be in the front row to support his son in London.

"I couldn’t say to him 'you’re not going to be around to be on the front row dad,'" he said.

“I was holding his hand as he stopped breathing and it wasn’t until he’d actually stopped breathing and he was dead that I finally acknowledged he wasn’t invincible.”

It’s that loss and also that lesson on how to be a loving father that has guided Tom Daley in his first few months of fatherhood.

We hope for happy days for this father and his son.

Tom Daley's Been Secretly Filming A Documentary About Surrogacy And Fatherhood

This past June, Olympic diver Tom Daley and tv producer Dustin Lance Black became first-time fathers to a lovely baby boy named Robbie Ray.

The two fathers were gifted with Robbie Ray through surrogacy and now Daley shares that he’ll be exploring the world and law of surrogacy through a tv film for the BBC.

According to The Sun, Daley will travel between the UK, the US, and undisclosed countries where surrogacy is illegal.

Not only will Daley document the surrogacy process, but he will compare the systems in both the UK and the US.

In addition, the film will show Daley and his husband discussing the challenges they faced while on the journey to meeting their son.

Back when they announced that they were going to have a baby through surrogacy, Daley and Black faced an onslaught of homophobic abuse online. Many religious-inclined homophobes rejected the idea of two men raising a baby and doing so through surrogacy. This may play a part in the discussion held in this documentary.

According to the Independent, Tom McDonald, the head of commissioning, natural history, and specialist factual at the BBC, spoke about the program:

“Surrogacy is one of the most complex issues in modern society and the laws which govern it are radically different across the world."

“As new fathers through surrogacy, Tom and Lance are both committed to exploring all of the nuances around this very emotive subject. I’m thrilled that Tom is going to be our guide in this deeply personal and intelligent film.”

So far, the untitled documentary is set to air sometime next year.

Tom Daley And Dustin Lance Black Welcome New Baby Boy

British Olympic diver Tom Daley and Hollywood producer/screenwriter Dustin Lance Black have announced the birth of their first child.

The couple sharedwith the internet back in February that they were expecting to both celebration and disdain.

While fans cheered, there were several conservatives who attacked the couple for planning to raise a child without a mother and having a child through surrogacy.

All of that darkness and negativity didn’t stop the couple from loving their unborn child and the future they planed together.

Now, that future has come to pass as Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black have announced the birth of their newborn son named Robert Ray Black-Daley.

Wrote Black: “Welcome to the world little Robbie Ray. Thank you for bringing so much love and light with you. And thank you to those who helped make our dream of having a family into this wonderful reality.”

Wrote Daley: “Welcome to the world our precious little Robbie Ray Black-Daley. The amount of love and joy you have brought into our life is immeasurable, our precious little son”

That’s not all though. The couple didn’t just announce little Robbie Ray’s birth on Twitter, they also did it through the Time of London print edition..

As one fan found in their newspaper, Robbie Ray appears in the Births, Marriage, and Deaths corner of the newspaper.

The message says, “BLACK-DALEY On 27th June 2018 to Thomas Robert Daley and Dustin Lance Black, a son, Robert Ray.”

While we’re sure that the trolls are coming, or have already arrived in the replies to both tweets, we hope that the love and celebrations of fans of news sources will outweigh the hate.

Congratulations to the happy family, we wish you the best.

Tom Daley Takes Husband Dustin Lance Black To Work

In 2017, Tom Daley won gold in the 10m platform at the World Championships and no one was happier for him than his husband, Dustin Lance Black. That is until this past week.

Two days before the World Championships, Dustin Lance Black, who goes by Lance, bet his husband that if he wins the World's, he will dive the 10m with Tom. And the time has finally come for Lance to pay the piper.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Tom shows Lance the ropes of diving. He starts him out on a 1m platform and gradually the two go up higher and higher, but not without lots of complaining from Lance and some pretty bad form, too (To be fair, we can't do any better).

Particularly impressive is how great Lance looks in his Speedo, but apparently, the Speedo does little to shield Lance from the pain of diving. At one point, he even asks to have his "bits rubbed."

Will Lance jump from 10m? Watch the video below to find out.

Tom Daley Opens Up About His Sexuality And Labels

Athlete Tom Daley says he’s “not 100 percent gay” and would prefer a different label.

Last December, tv writer and producer Dustin Lance Black opened up about his relationship with the British Olympic diver and said that they’ve had their rocky moments.

"Our relationship is far from perfect. We have really tough times and struggles."

Black added onto the topic by talking about Daley’s sexuality. Passing it off as a bit of a joke and a bit of scandalous gossip, Dustin Lance Black said:

"I don’t know if I’ll be in trouble for this; his head still turns for girls."

Daley later explained that he’s primarily interested in men, but that he does still look at women.

“I always knew that I liked guys. I just thought it was a normal thing to like guys but then also appreciate girls’ attention too. I didn’t know that there was a strict rule, you must like one or the other.”

He added:

“I don’t really identify as any of that. Because at the end of the day, I’m married to a guy. So in theory that would make me gay, but I wouldn’t necessarily put a label on it.”

Now, Daley is opening up more about his sexuality and letting us all know what label he prefers.

In a recent interview with The Times, Daley shares that the label gay doesn’t work for him. He’d much rather go with queer.

“The word a lot of people are using now is queer, instead of labelling yourself as lesbian, gay or transsexual.”

“Queer is, like, a better word,” he said.

“People say, ‘You like boys,’ but I’ve liked girls too. My generation shouldn’t feel the need to be labelled; we are too obsessed by gender.

“I am not 100 percent straight, I’m not 100 percent gay, I’m just queer. My generation, I think, are more fluid.”

This isn’t to say that Daley is afraid of being called gay. Its just that he feels queer is more suiting.

“I was worried when I came out that I was going to be labelled as the gay diver rather than a great diver. Now I don’t care, it’s forced me to be more open,” he said.

No matter what, its every person’s right to call themselves whatever label they want. If Tom Daley wants to be referred to as queer, while still supporting LGBTQ rights, then so be it.

Tom Daley Gets (Unintentionally) Naked... AGAIN!

British diver Tom Daley may just be the gift that keeps on giving in terms of how many times we've seen all of him on the interwebs.

Photos of him in the nude were revealed shortly after the turn of the new year.  According to a British tabloid paper called The Sun, Tom is alleging that the photos were actually from 2016, way before Tom and his Oscar-winning husband Dustin Lance Black were married.

Another photo has surfaced online, courtesy of !! omg blog !!, where it looked as if his "member" accidentally escaped his speedo during a recent swim meet (see the NSFW pic here).

We are currently jealous of the water he was in.
