Wah-wah. Much of the community had been waiting for Michigan to become the latest state to provide marriage rights for its same-sex couples in a surprise twist. But those dreams were squashed on Thursday as a judge postponed a same-sex adoption decision until after SCOTUS hears the case against the "Defense of Marriage Act."

Jennifer Roback Morse, a notorious henchman for the National Organization for Marriage, told a crowd at Iowa State University that Tyler Clementi's suicide could be attributed to the LGBT community.
The gall, right?
Spurred by the Clementi family and GLAAD's demand for a retraction and apology, Roback Morse has issued a rare follow-up to say. But what she has to say for herself is not painting a smile on the faces of her critics.

The Obama administration's amicus brief, filed last week, shot down what's being described as a "key" argument on the part of congressional Republicans in the Supreme Court's Defense of Marriage Act case.
Lawyers defending DOMA on behalf of Congress argue that because same-sex couples cannot become accidentally pregnant, they do not need access to marriage.

Four former U.S. Senators, each of whom voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996, now regret that decision, telling the Supreme Court that "the original justifications for DOMA can no longer be credited today," and concluding that "our constitutional commitment to equality does not tolerate such discrimination."

Colorado took another step towards legalizing civil unions on Thursday as Senate Bill 11 passed in the House Judiciary Committee.
While the 8-3 vote was pretty lopsided in favor of the bill's passage, it's notable that the breakdown included seven Democrats and one Republican.
Republican Rep. Carole Murray broke with her party in support of civil unions legislation and explains her emotional decision after the jump.
