The Senate has confirmed an openly gay man, Eric Fanning, as the under secretary of the U.S. Air Force. This is the second-highest ranking civilian position in the Air Force.

President Obama continues to make his second inauguration a welcoming place for all Americans in the selection of former Air Force SSgt. David Hall, a veteran who was discharged under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," as citizen co-chair. 

Air Force airman Tech. Sgt. Erwynn Umali and his partner Will Behrens became one of the first same-sex couples to hold their civil union ceremony on a U.S. military base on Saturday. 

Eight months after the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," America's first openly gay Air Force cadets have graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in a historic ceremony that included President Obama. Video and details follow.  

With the helpful support of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, Air Force Staff Sergeant Anthony Loverde, who was discharged from service under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in 2008, will be reinstated into ranks in May.

The Pentagon has confirmed that it officially discharged an Air Force airman on April 29 under Don't Ask, Don't Tell—the first DADT discharge since President Obama signed repeal into action.

Margaret Witt, a former Air Force flight nurse expelled from the military after revealing she is a lesbian, was just ordered reinstated by a federal judge!  

The American Civil Liberties Union, representing Major Witt in contesting her dismissal, has said that if returned to service, she would be the first person to lawfully serve openly in the U.S. ...

Update: Monday, Aug. 16, 1:40 p.m.:

SLDN has reached an agreement with the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho, U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Air Force, on the request for a temporary restraining order. The agreement prevents the Air Force from discharging Lt. Col. Fehrenbach under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" until the Court can schedule a hearing on the motion for a preliminary injunction.

“The agreement recognizes the immediate harm to Lt. Col. Fehrenbach and insures that he will eventually get to make his case at a full blown hearing without losing his job," SLDN's Aubrey Sarvis said. "This agreement is a victory for Lt. Col. Fehrenbach and our nation. The Air Force can still do the right thing and retain Lt. ...

Hearing from the Air Force and Army has become commonplace when it comes to "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," but one branch of the military we don't hear from as much is the men at sea (see, we even avoided the cliche joke), the Navy.
