The Associated Press highlighted the outpouring of support that the Ali Forney Center has received in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
The shelter for homeless LGBT youth in New York City (helmed by Instinct Leading Man Carl Siciliano) was devastated by the superstorm, but it appears that kindhearted souls (yes, there are a few of them out there!) around the world have come to the rescue in a big way.

It appears that the proposed $7 million in cuts to New York City's homeless youth services budget (60 percent of the program's budget) will be restored to next year's budget to match the previous year's funding.
As we previously reported, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's initial proposed budget would have resulted in the lost of 160 of 259 shelter beds.
The City Council will vote on the new budget later this week.

It's no secret that the Ali Forney Center, helmed by Instinct Leading Man Carl Siciliano, is one of our favorite organizations. They do consistent invaluable work providing shelter to homeless LGBT youth and working as advocates for LGBT youth and young adults.
In conjunction with their 10-year anniversary, they're also hosting their 3rd annual summer fundraising benefit, Oasis, with Barclays acting as the presenting sponsor for the 2nd year in a row.
Now who could be the host for such an auspicious occasion? How about the one and only, Parker Posey?!

We previously reported on New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed budget cuts that would take $7 million from the 2013 budget for the city’s Runaway and Homeless Youth Services. This would directly impact LGBT youth, who make up 40% of the homeless youth population.
More than 150 advocates and homeless youth gathered, Thursday, in front of New York City Hall to protest the proposed budget cuts.

We’ve been highlighting the back-and-forth between Ali Forney Center director Carl Siciliano and Cardinal Timothy Dolan quite a bit here on the blog. And to say that Cardinal Dolan didn’t respond well to being called out for his anti-LGBT views is an understatement.
Still, we’re guessing he didn’t expect any fallout within the ranks.
That’s not the case. Executive Committee member of the Junior Board of Catholic Charities (and 2005 Instinct Leading Man) Joseph Amodeo has submitted his resignation from Catholic Charities in the wake of Cardinal Dolan’s comments and clear failings of leadership.
Check out his stirring letter of resignation after the jump.

New York's Archbishop Timothy Dolan has kept his contempt for homosexuals and his opposition for marriage equality anything but secret. In his high-powered role for a community that is supposed to be founded on love, Dolan’s used his voice to the detriment of our community. Fortunately for us, active members of the LGBT movement are refusing to stand for it. Check out excerpts from this open letter in the Huffington Post to Cardinal Dolan from Carl Siciliano, founder and executive director of the Ali Forney Center and a 2011 Instinct Leading Man.
