American Idol producers knew exactly what they were doing when they decided to mix a potent cocktail (our favorite kind!) by hiring certified DIVA Mariah Carey and outspoken Queens-born Nicki Minaj as judges. On the same panel. At the same time. It's like trying to mix olive oil and water. Or, if you'd like an example using items from Mariah Carey's celebrity rider, it's like mixing rose petal bath water at exactly 102 degrees and a case of Cristal champagne with a side box of bendy straws; it just doesn't work.

The grade school experiment was shown off at a recent American Idol audition after the two judges disagreed about a contestant's abilities which lead Nicki Minaj to reportedly threaten to "knock out" Mariah.

Has the LGBT community "commandeered" the black civil rights experience?

The elderly within the LGBT community are uniquely vulnerable as they age, as many do not have children, family, or legal spouses to care for them--not to mention all of the legal hoops those in relationships, or even those that are widowed, have to jump through in order for their basic financial and property rights and wishes to be met.

That's why Democratic Senator Michael Bennet's (CO) introduction of the LGBT Elder Americans Act of 2012, is so important.

This legislation would increase federal supports to millions of LGBT older people through the Older Americans Act (OAA), the country’s largest vehicle for funding and delivering services to older people in the US. The OAA is currently up for reauthorization and includes no mention...

The New York Daily News published an interesting piece today that may cast a shadow over the Presidential election in November.

President Obama's decision to come out in favor of same-sex marriage in May, may have marked a notable shift in support of same-sex marriage within the African-American community, but within the black church many clergy members viewed the move as a betrayal.

Now with the option being to vote for a President that supports same-sex marriage and a candidate that is part of a controversial religious faith (Mormonism), some black pastors are encouraging their parishoners to stay home on election day. More after the jump.

Former National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) chairman Julian Bond penned an op-ed aiming to increase the discussion of same-sex marriage within the African-American community.

The opinion piece was published in Afro-American newspaper, which is notable because the paper circulates in Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Maryland will be the site of a voter referendum on same-sex marriage in November and 25 percent of the state's voters are African-American.
