Downtown Portland's Lonesome Pizza caused quite an outcry amongst the transgender community and their allies when a controversial menu item called "tranny stix" was highlighted by Transadvocate on Facebook. 

The "tranny stix" (they're actually breadsticks) were paired on the menu with a picture of Lonesome Pizza co-owner Nic Reddy dressed in drag.

However, in a move that gives us hope (and has us ready to chow down on a slice), Reddy issued an honest apology. Check it out after the jump!

Britain's leading gay rights advocacy group has called on Cardinal Keith O'Brien to apologize to the gay community in the wake of yesterday's admssion that he'd participated in "sexual misconduct" with other priests.

Wedding photographer Anne Almasy purchased a half page ad in Weddings Unveiled magazine, only to have her submission (the photo above of a lesbian couple on their wedding day) rejected by the publication.

Former U.S. Ambassador James Hormel has responded to former Senator Chuck Hagel's apology for his 1998 comments that argued gays were not fit to serve as diplomats. Those comments were directly in reference to Hormel, the first openly gay U.S. Ambassador. Hormel served as the U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg.

Former Senator Chuck Hagel apologized today for remarks that he made in 1998, in which he stated that an openly gay man nominated for a diplomatic post should not represent the United States.

Hagel's remarks are under a bit of a microscope right now because he's a candidate for Secretary of Defense. Some are questioning his ability and willingness to oversee an LGBT inclusive military.

The Cleveland Browns didn't waste much time before releasing a statement this morning to both condemn their player Tank Carder's use of "faggot" on Twitter and distance the franchise from the ugly slur. 

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has just published a letter blasting Rabbi Noson Leiter for attempting to blame Hurricane Sandy on the state's marriage equality law.

Stevie Wonder has apologized for his statements regarding gay men and women potentially being "confused."

"I’m sorry that my words about anyone feeling confused about their love were misunderstood. No one has been a greater advocate for the power of love in this world than I; both in my life and in my music. Clearly, love is love, between a man and a woman, a woman and a man, a woman and a woman and a man and a man. What I’m not confused about is the world needing much more love, no hate, no prejudice, no bigotry and more unity, peace and understanding. Period."

Evan Rachel Wood caused a bit of a storm (more tropical storm than hurricane) in the Twitterverse when she tweeted what some are deeming a homophobic joke with regards to Miley Cyrus's new haircut.

Actress Rashida Jones caused a bit of an uproar when in an interview with Spinning Platters she implied (read: explicitly said) that John Travolta was gay.

While discussing the need for an A-List star to come out of the closet, Jones said:

Jones: And a movie star! It’s time.

McCormack: Yeah, like a big one.

Jones: A movie star. Like John Travolta? Come out! Come on. How many masseurs have to come forward? Let’s do this.
