With the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) potentially ending its ban on gay Scouts and Scout leaders, you'd think that'd be cause for at least a cautious celebration, right??

Not so fast. The policy that may replace the nationwide ban is giving the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) pause.

The proposed new policy would give sponsoring organizations permission to institute their own bans on gay Scouts and troop leaders at the local level.

More after the jump.

In an interesting move—as Neil Patrick Harris correctly identifies—the Boy Scouts of America have opened up their phone lines to hear what the public has to say about allowing gay troops and leaders into its ranks.

If an analog phone call is too old school for you, the BSA will also take your opinion on the matter at the email address  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Give 'em a ring or an email. You know the bigoted forces against dismantling Boy Scout discrimination are doing the same.

Well it looks like Maryland's Boy Scout Pack 442 has been bullied into submission.

The inclusive scouting pack, that publicly noted their support of scouts and  leaders regardless of their sexual orientation, folded to pressure from Boy Scouts of America higher ups.

Ryan Andresen, the Boy Scout who was denied his Eagle Scout award and dismissed from the Boy Scouts of America after coming out as gay, is getting some high profile support.

We're guessing the Family Research Council doesn't consider this blatantly inflammatory and inaccurate rhetoric to be "hate speech."

In the wake of UPS's refusal to support the Boy Scouts of America, the FRC has once again come out in support of the BSA's discriminatory policy against gays. They're now claiming that the BSA's decision to ban gays isn't based on a desire to discriminate, but is an effort to protect children from those big scary gay pedophiles.

Really.

See what they had to say after the jump.

A new expose from the L.A. Times further blurs the lines between the Boy Scouts of America and the Catholic Church. Is discriminating against LGBT troops and leaders actually not the most shocking BSA controversy?
