It looks like California may hit the Boy Scouts where it hurts--in their wallet.
A move to make the organizaion ineligible to receive nonprofit tax breaks based on its discriminatory practices, passed its first vote today in the California state legislature.

Security at the Westfield Galleria mall in Roseville, California asked boyfriends Daniel and Jose to leave the property after they shared a simple and loving smooch.

The Obama administration's brief asking the Supreme Court court to overturn California's Prop. 8 makes some interesting legal arguments.
While it doesn't go so far as to call for marriage equality across the country, it does make the claim that any state that currently allows civil unions should, in essence, be legalizing same-sex marriage in order to avoid a "separate but equal" standard.

A transgender woman has filed a lawsuit against California Baptist University based on her expulsion following the reveal that she was originally born a male.
Javier has identified as a female since she was a child and began dressing and presenting herself as female at age 13.

Wow! In a bold move that, if passed, will certainly provide incentive for groups to embrace equality, California State Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Long Beach) and Equality California, today, announced the introduction of new legislation that would remove a state tax exemption for any youth group, that discriminates against members and leaders on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
And yep, that includes the Boy Scouts.
