It appears members of the Supreme Court aren't above stating outright lies.
Justice Antonin Scalia made the comment during Tuesday's Prop. 8 hearing that “there’s considerable disagreement among sociologists as to what the consequences of raising a child in a single-sex family, whether that is harmful to the child or not.”
Only that's not true. And considering he had an amicus brief submitted by the American Sociological Association (ASA) on that specific subject, he should have known better.
More after the jump.

The 2013 Golden Globes had so much going for it: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler becoming the best hosts the Globes have ever seen; the SNL alum takeover of Hollywood; Jennifer Lawrence minting a new line of sassy t-shirts with her "I beat Meryl" acceptance speech; Lena Dunham finally ascending to her rightful throne. But with all the Girls making it one of the best Globes ever, it was easily Jodie Foster's raw non-coming out coming out speech that will make this awards broadcast one for the homo history books.

Moments ago we learned that the Supreme Court took no action today on the handful of marriage equality cases begging for its attention. We could have news on the conference as early as Monday, with most SCOTUS analysts believing Friday, December 7 is the best chance for the Court to take action.
According to SCOTUSblog's Lyle Denniston, the Court did make two interesting announcements after today's conference: "It did agree to rule on whether taking a human gene out of the body is a process that can be patented. It also agreed to rule on legal protection for makers of generic drugs."

It looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to find out whether or not the Supremer Court will take up the handful of marriage equality cases it faces, including challenges to Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act.
According to the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the Supreme Court has moved back the conference date from November 20 to November 30. We should hear the results of the conference by Monday, December 3.
