The bar for her wedding was set high after Keesha Patterson proposed to her girlfriend Rowan Ha in one of the most unforgettable settings imaginable: President Obama's Election Night Celebration in Chicago. 

Instead of gold, Chicago's Cardinal Francis George gave 400 couples celebrating their golden 50th anniversaries an earful of bigotry. Speaking at a mass anniversary party, the Cardinal told the straight couples on hand that the "friendships" of gay people must not be made legal. 

We're all for freedom of speech, but we have to admit we enjoy being able to celebrate our Southern Decadence in peace.

Nine preachers (of course claiming to be men of God) were arrested on Saturday for yelling anti-gay slurs over bullhorns during New Orlean's annual celebration of the gays in the French Quarter.

I always cry at weddings.

But Sunday afternoon—embedded within hundreds (and at times, thousands) of supportive strangers who certainly put the party in wedding party—was the first time I cried a hundred consecutive times at a hundred consecutive weddings.

The tears, of course, were born from joy, erupting over me and dozens of others nearby in a jubilant cycle; with each newly married gay or lesbian couple that exited the doors of the New York City Clerk's office, legal marriage certificates held victoriously above their heads, their wedding party of strangers and supporters cheered, threw rainbow confetti, cried, hugged, photographed, held signs with clever printed slogans like "A (More) Civil Union," swayed with immutable smiles ...

The White House will host its third annual Pride reception this year, a press release for the event has revealed.
