We guess we'll see whether the recent upswing in same-sex marriage support will result in a victory amongst Washington voters. (Still, we've gotta say this whole voting on civil rights thing is getting old.)

Preserve Marriage Washington submitted more than 200,000 signatures, effectively blocking Washington's law allowing same-sex marriage from taking effect on Thursday.

Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire won't sign marriage equality into law in her state until 11:30 a.m. pst, but Marriage Equality USA has already given us a glimpse of how the country will stand with seven states recognizing same-sex couples. Details follow. 

There are many heroes in the Washington marriage equality success story, but Governor Christine Gregoire, who admits to having had a change of heart before coming around to the side of love, stands out of the crop. After campaigning for marriage equality support for weeks in the state, Gov. Gregoire will finally be able to put her mark on the legislation on Monday. 

She helped push the tipping point over the edge in favor of equality in Washington, and now, as she readies her signature for the landmark legislation headed her way, Gov. Last week we reported that Washington state was a mere four votes shy of having the needed senate support for marriage equality. MyNorthwest.com recently reported that number has dropped to a mere one vote after Sen. Jim Kastama, a conservative democrat who had previously opposed same-sex marriage, announced his departure from the dark side, making him number 24 in the Senate to commit to support same-sex couples.

With the endorsement of numerous businesses, including Microsoft Corp, (we knew we loved you, Bill), as well as Gov. Chris Gregoire, we can almost hear the gay wedding bells now.
