Openly gay Councilman Todd Gloria has been named San Diego's new City Council President after a unanimous vote earlier today. Details after the jump!

While the GLBT community seems divided on support of President Obama and his pace on issues important to us, all it takes is a little symbolic act and reception to remind us how lucky we are to have him and his administration in office: last week, President Obama mailed exclusive invites to a historic Pride Reception to be held at the White House on Tuesday, June 22.

One of the distinguished invitees includes openly-gay Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh.
