Authors of the book “Time to Eat the Dog: The Real Guide to Sustainable Living” (a hard title to type for a human companion to a dog, like myself) teamed up with scientists at the Stockholm Environment Institute in the UK to arrive at the carbon “pawprint” of pet dogs. After quantifying the amount of energy, space and resources necessary to make an average dog's food for an entire year, the team discovered that pooches leave an annual carbon pawprint that's twice that of SUV's.
